Based on a lecture I heard:
As parents we work hard on providing a good foundation for our kids so they can grow up to be pious and good human beings. For that, there are 3 recommended rules that if each parent follows, chances of establishing a rock solid sense of the right and wrong are high.
Teach your kid to always tell the truth. Tell them that there will be no compromise in this area. Once this habit is formed, there will always be inner peace in the child.
Teach them the value of salat. This brings discipline and cleanliness. Also, little sins are forgiven. Most importantly, the fardh of a muslim is being fulfilled.
Teach them the value of having a serving attitude...or jazbaah e khidmat. Teach your kids how to help themselves, how to help around the home, their elders, parents. This instills respect and kindness, a soft heart and most importantly, teaches them not to react to life as a burden.
