Am I the only one who found breastfeeding the easiest way of feeding infants? Okay the first few days were very depressing but it got better with time.
no not the only one ..... and it gets better with each baby! this time I did not even have sore breasts mA.
why do some women get almost no milk? When my baby was born, I had no milk supply for few days. I pumped and pumped to help the milk come down. baby wasn't interested in latching, LC tried and gave up. He would scream in the nursery which was pretty embarrassing. So got home.. pumped.. the most I ever got was an ounce. No more. I used nipple shields to teach him how to suck then eventually my own nipples. I would put him for hours on my breast hoping it will increase milk supply.. but umm no. I gave up after a month of trying. I was tired, frustrated, he was not interested and started the whole crying, screaming thing again. I had not choice but to completely stop breastfeeding. Of course if I had enough milk, he wouldn't have done that. Now after two months (he is three months now). I have just few drops that too if I squeeze. Pumping doesn't help. I drank Mother's Milk tea, had fenugreek seed capsules and I pump when I have time to stimulate the breast. Everything failed. I really really want to establish that one ounce I was getting. That was better than not getting anything. According to my mom, the way I tried and kept putting my baby to my breast, if there was another women she would've gotten rivers of milk. My doctor said the pumping is too artifical for your breast and it doesn't get stimulated. Ever heard of that??? I am so tired and I feel like I fail as a mother. I don't know what else I could do. And no formula isn't the same thing as breast milk, I don't believe that. I feel like you ladies are so lucky to have milk. Why isn't it like that with me?

It happened to my cousin's wife, she tried really hard but it just didn't work out for her.
I remember with the first baby, in first few days only few drops were coming out and I was kinda worried and actually tried out the formula milk but then the midwife told me that for new born babies even a teaspoon is enough as long as you feed them every 20 or 30 minutes.
I know some people don't recommend breast pumps, they prefer the natural way which is suckling". But if you've tried that already and it still didn't work out then don't feel bad about it.
Spiral, don't feel like that, hon. You tried your hardest and you have to do what is best for you and your baby. I would highly recommend ignoring ur idiot doctor and finding a better LC. I have never heard of one simply giving up! Find someone from the La Leche League immediately for help. I mean, today. You are determined to do this, they will help you. Or see if there is someone from the Dr Jack Newman clinic in your area. They are also meant to be fantastic. However, like is aid, if it doesn't work, it's ok. Formulas today are so good, and yes breast is best, but your mental health and happiness is sooooo much more important for your baby's health. No point in him getting breast milk if he senses mommy is unhappy. Also, what pump were you using? The hospital grade ones are the best options.
Sgc, I don’t Really know about hospital grade pumps because hey didn’t offer any. However, my LC gave me a manual one by Medela which was a hassle because I’d be pumping for an hour to get an ounce or two maybe. Then I went ahead and bought me a electronic one by evenflo. It’s alright I guess, but I m still not too happy with it. I wish there was an easier way to do this.
saw the mother's tea ingredients on Amazon and added it in milk and started sprinkling zeera on everything.....think its helped:):)
How is the pain now SGC? How is pumping and nursing going for you??? Ive been doing the same thing since I started school already.
ooooo Ive been wondering if anyone else is experiencing this--but does their milk harden inside the breasts??? instead of let down....How does one fix this????
also, how do you know if the baby is getting enough breastmilk. For two weeks I was constantly feeding and feeding, but the baby was still hungry and I didnt know, Though he was crying because of gas:S:S
BlushingRose, make sure you're wearing the right sized bra usually which is not too tight, warm showers and massage with olive oil can solve this problem.
Newborn cries only for four reasons usually,
1) hungry
2) dirty nappy
3) colic
4) sleepy
you can tell by the baby's dirty nappies if he's getting enough milk, if the nappies are quite full for 5 or 6 times a day then that means he's getting the right amount of milk.
omg, i got the manual one by medela- talk about torture device!! holy moly. the one my hospital rents that i have now is the medela symphony. its fantastic.

pump or nurse more often to avoid the plugged milk ducts. those are the hard spots you feel. as you nurse or pump, massage those as you would when checking for breast lumps. after a few feedings, they should be gone. they can be quite painful otherwise, so try to get rid of them.
pumping is all i'm doing so far. i tried latching him on for two feedings yesterday but it still hurt, even with the nipple shield. how can i not get the latch correct? i'm completely perplexed about how to do it. plus he's usually screaming away for food which makes me anxious. sigh. lets see what the LC says on tuesday when i see her again.

Yeah, I liked the Symphony too!
I eventually bought the Medela Pump in Style. Pricey but good. And get the pumping top so that your hands are free!!!

I wonder what would happen if you tried latching him before his feed time, before he's too hungry.
^yes, try to put bean onto the breast before he's too hungry, like as soon as he wakes up, put him on. When he latches on, make sure your nipple and about an inch of skin around the nipple (areola?) is in his mouth. It hurts more if the baby is only sucking onto the nipple.

I joined La Leche League and I love going on their website and reading what people have to say. I have decided to contact a certified LC who will come to my place for however long it takes for my baby to latch on. Does anyone have experience with those LC? They see you on regular basis and help the baby latch on. I'll do this only if my insurance covers the cost or else I am sure its very expensive.
I got Medela pump in style advanced but it doesn't seem to do anything for me. What's a hospital grade pump?? I will get that to see if that works. Any recommendations ladies?
^ The hospital grade ones are Medela Symphony usually. I liked it a lot, but it wasn't a whole lot different from the Pump in Style. I never got a ton of milk when I pumped. Usually just an ounce or two, and very rarely five ounces. That was with the Pump in Style.
So I guess Symphony will be worth getting. Talked to the insurance, said they'll cover it 100% if the doctor writes it. Hopefully my doctor will. PISA seems lower than average to me.
