Re: Question about breast milk...

How often do you have to take fenugreek seeds and how much at one time? I have methi seeds, would that work you think? I can't find a halal fenugreek seed tablet so I had some seeds, swallowed it with water.

Re: Question about breast milk...

Yeah I just started using it in my cooking. You can also grind them up and add them to things to help.

Re: Question about breast milk...

Thanks guys, that was ver helpful.

Good news is the kids just started to latch on today. So all day today I tried to avoid formula and BF them. They seemed hungry all day and by the end of the day I was in tears. I finally gave in and used formula.
I did however take a teaspoon full of zeera with a cup of milk, and that seemed to have helped a bit. I'll try the fenugreek seeds as well and see what happens.

Re: Question about breast milk...

you can also make fenugreek n zeera water ......take one litre of water n add 1 tablespoon of fenugreek, one of zeera n one of ajwain brig to a boil and then lower the flame n cook it till 1.5 cup water remains, strain it and add to ur drinking water ,if u think the taste is too pungent then u can also make a v dilute solution ........fenugreek n ajwain also help with the gassiness soon after birth and prevent baby colic too

Re: Question about breast milk...

The mother's milk tea also has fennel (for let down) and fenugreek (to support milk production) as well as other herbs that function as galactogogues (one of my new favorite words! look it up!)

Re: Question about breast milk...

Drinking a glass of water (room temp) before feeding time has certainly been helping me; oxytocin and ADH are both released from the posterior pituitary after all.

Re: Question about breast milk...

I've not read all the replies so apologies if I repeat some things..

I had a really rocky start with breastfeeeding (Its SO SO MUCH HARDER THAN IT LOOKS) but a year later, I am still feeding her even though its only one/two feeds every other day.

The more baby drinks, the more milk you produce. So along with putting baby to the breast what would help is being properly hydrated (drink water before and during breastfeeding your baby).

A teaspoon of fenugreek seeds once/twice a day is also known to have an affect on lactation..

Also, there is an anti-sickness drug called Domperidone (labbled as Motillium) that when taken has a side-effect of increasing lactation. My daughter was ill for a week and would not breadtfeed at all and so my supply drastically dwindled, I got the tablets and made sure I was really hydrated and fed her whenever possible and within a week my supply was back to normal.

Dont be too hard on urself if u cant breastfeed your baby. I was SO SO SO DETERMINED to breast feed that the pressure I put on myself was my own downfall.

Re: Question about breast milk...

I am breastfeeding and have enough milk, she drinks enough and looks satisfied with it ..but as allways my babies don't gain much weight through my milk .. I don't think we have gained to our birth weight yet, she is a week old. Does this happens with anyone else ? I see breastfed babies are so healthy and gublo gublo.

Re: Question about breast milk...

^ I think it takes 10-14 days to get back to birth weight normally.

I know some breastfed babies that are chubbo and some that are not. I see babies who eat a ton and are skinny, and some wiht little appetites that are still chubby. I think a lot depends on the way the body metabolizes the food. As long as they are growing well, I think you don't need to worry.

Re: Question about breast milk...

thanks Sahar! so 10-14 days .. ok

Re: Question about breast milk...

^yeah, babies lose weight rather than gaining in the first 10-15 days. My babies just started to gain weight this week. They are 17 days old today.

Re: Question about breast milk...

Is is sold like open tea or tea bag form? Where can i find it?

Re: Question about breast milk...

Ladies I did this myself anytime I felt I was low on supply and it works wonders within 24 hours. Mix equal amount (by weight) of methi dana and saunf and mooli key beej (if you don't have mooli key beej) it is alright.

Grind all the ingredients and eat 2 Tspns with a glass of water, I used to do that at least 3 times a day. and alhamdulillah there was enough to express and feed Jr. at the same time... Breastfeeding is harder than givign birth and you have to be really really tough with your kid but it is SOOO worth it in the end. Even if it is just for one year or as long as your kid wants...

Re: Question about breast milk...

Tea bags. I got it from Whole Foods type grocery stores and Amazon has it as well.

Re: Question about breast milk...

And it helped u sahar?

Re: Question about breast milk...

I bought them from GNC.Wonder if you have the store where you live..:)

Re: Question about breast milk...

Who knows? I think so, but it's hard to tell.

I do think that the biggest effect was from eating oatmeal and drinking water nonstop.

Re: Question about breast milk...

I am drinking raspberry tea(well its actually mix berry friuts with raspberry in it too), (2-3 bags) make a whole pot (almost 2 liters) and drink it through the night (warm). Really helps or you can get the raspberry sirup and put it in your water, but as I was told to avoid cold water for the next few weeks, I am drinking the warm tea, a glas of warm milk, 2 tablespoons of panjeeri everyday. mA supply is good.
