Re: QUANTIFYING SPIRTUALITY?
Peace Sister
Spirit is defined by what essence our true natures lead us to our design purpose. The spirit can be viewed as a volatile thing and free or liberated thing. The body is therefore a confined thing and something that has condensed into material form.
Utilising the thought model of ghost in the machine, we can deduce that the ghost moves the machine and the machine stimulates the ghost.
Sensation is how the world affects us
Emotion is how we experience the world
Reason is how we create
Spirituality is therefore the distancing of material needs for those higher needs.
Thinking of God, Abstaining from food, giving charity, sacrificing ones rights, defeating ones own ego is the process towards higher spirituality.
We need to deprive ourselves from sensory stimulus such as food and sex and also emotional stimulus such as games, song, and talking often with people, in order to increase our spiritual contact with our Creator.
The highest level of spiritual state is a complete focus on the reality of God, as if He is there. In a reasonable deduction if God showed Himself to us we would not be concerned with anything we could slice our necks and limbs off without a flinch. This is because that person would be distanced from their senses. Emotion would be on hold it would be shear awe. We could not reason either it would be a pure reflex of our design purpose to fall in prostration before Him.
Spirituality is therefore the distancing of the Fitrah from the nufs such that the fitrah is enough to guide us to act without the need to pass it by our souls.
