Re: Qtr Final 1 - Argentina vs Germany
For all that says Germany played poor football is wrong. I mean from watching them the games I've seen and the second half against Argentina , it would be very unfair to say they don't play good football, because they were at the same levels as Argentina, if Argentina played excellent football in first half is irrelevant. You don't win games by playing a great first half.
Argentina has the better dribblers and shortpassers, Germany the better runners and long passers. And today, Germany had the better defense, seeing Argentina having possession most of first half and absolutely zero shot on goal from that.
On the other hand, Germany had that big chance by Ballack's header.
And the statistical higher time of ball possession for Argentina has nothing to do with Germany bunkering and waiting for counters, it´s just the different approache to the game these both teams have.
Argentina wants a long build up, it seems as if every Argentina attack has to go 3 or 4 times over Riquelmes foot, on the other side, Klinsmanns 'main change to the German team is, that he wants immediately fast attacks from every turn over. That is high risk, not bunkering.
Ok. Then Argentina at least made their goal from a setpiece, which in one way wasn't a great combination or so, because German defense interrupted almost every build up play of the Argies, but a mistake of a German striker, as Klose failed to intercept defenders Ayalas' header.
And then Argentina lost for their arrogance, at least the arrogance of their headcoach, who subbed the main offensive midfielder for a third defensive mid.
To think, one can bunker down a German team at a World Cup with 20 minutes to go and only 1 goal up, is nothing less than naive and arrogant.
How many times has this happend? Germany turning around a game in crunch time? Yeah, I rest my case.
