I think Tappay and mahiye are part of Punjabi poetry from centuries, and Gulzar may have inspired by them when he wrote TRIVENI. Plz share any TRIVENI written by Gulzar Sahb. I love Gulzar's writings.

Taak se gir ke keemti cheezein toot bhi jaaya karti hain!****

ek chand si dulhan ki....

aaj footpath par laete hue... yeh chand mujhe roti nazar aata hai!

****Kuch Aisi ehthiyath se nikla chaand phir..
jaise andheri raat mein khidki pe aao tum...

Kya chaand aur zameen mein bhi kuch kicchaav hain?****

Koi chaadar ki tarah kheenche chala jaata hai dariya,
Kaun soya hai tale iske jise dhoondh rahe hain...

Doobne wale ko bhi chainse sone nahin dete !!

****Chalo aaj intezaar khatam hua
Chalo ab tum mil hi jaaoge..

Maut ka koi fayda to hua.****

Yeh Mana Is dauran kuch saal beet gayee hai
Phir Bhi aankhon mein chehra tumhara samayee Hui Hai...

Kitabon Pe Dhul Jamne Se Kahani Kahan Badalti Hai .

****Tere gesoo jab bhi baatein karte hain,
Uljhi-uljhi si woh baatein hoti hain...

Meri ungliyon ki mehmaangi, unhein pasand nahin...**

^ Lovely, but it is serious poetry where Tappay and mahiye are humrous thats why sung on weddings. Again, Thanks for sharing Gulzar's lovely poetry, he knows how to use words to convey message.

Oky ‘Tappy’ is shorten of any song. In other words its very short coded types song to give a hint or express the feeling. :champ:

You mean for every tappa there is a complete song and tappa is a zip version of complete song :konfused:

Tappa - is like to chain with another and another so on. If you want to make it full/long then yes you can do that. You also can use it as shorten coded word.

Example for coded Tappa (in punjabi):

kothay thy sa'ap rehnda
ban'ny ban'ny na phir ni
louka noo shaq painda

Ok, it means tappa is a chain of different paras collected in a single song. I found this tappa by Fareeha Pervez quite interesting.

Like you said 'Tappas' can be collected in a single song or can be used seperately too. Its depends :) same as if a wife would like to referrer his husband then she'll use word 'Mahi' in punjabi (maiya - Mahiyah).

Anyone know where I can get a book of tappay? To sing on the mehndi am dholki etc. No body knows the lyrics. Or they know a few words here and there then get lost :-/
