My parents never beat me as part of a punishment. My mom says she did once hit me, but she ended up crying more than I did.

I don’t remember this myself, but I used to be really scared of the dark. So, to get rid of my fear, my mom once locked me up in the storage room, and once made me stand in the backyard at night. It only made my fear worse. I’m still scared of looking out the window at night, being alone in the dark, heck..even being alone at home at night.

Wow. My parents did slap me as punishment as a child, but they would never ever do something like punish me through preying on my fears. I’d rather take 100 slaps than go through something like emotional punishment like that.

The worst punishment I ever got was at 13/14, when my mother found out that i had been telling her I was praying when in fact I had not been. Until then, she’d always considered me to be the trustworthy son. I was expecting to be on the receiving end of a slapfest, but what i got was much worse.

She just broke down in tears. Then I tried to hug her, and she would have any of it, she just ran to her room and locked herself in and all I could hear for a while was her crying.

That was the lowest point of my childhood.
