My parents never beat me as part of a punishment. My mom says she did once hit me, but she ended up crying more than I did.
I don't remember this myself, but I used to be really scared of the dark. So, to get rid of my fear, my mom once locked me up in the storage room, and once made me stand in the backyard at night. :( It only made my fear worse. I'm still scared of looking out the window at night, being alone in the dark, heck..even being alone at home at night.
