Re: PSL 2nd Q.Final: Islamabad United v Karachi Kings at Dubai (DSC), Feb 20, 2016
**GoldenAsif: **You are right. Sami has very bad performance in test but has quite reasonable performance in limited overs, better than many who are playing. In ODIs, Sami has similar performance figures to U Gul (same number of wickets per match, similar averages, similar economy and SR) but certainly his records are better than Wahab Riaz and others. Sami's performance in T20I is obviously better than any Pakistani bowlers (present or past).
Mystery is that, regardless of his performance, he was chucked out from all format of game (test understandably, but cant see any reason why he was/is dropped from ODIs and especially T20I).
As for performance of Players from Karachi in national team, most of the time it get subdued because of experience, especially due to discrimination, biases, treatments, behaviours and pressures from team management (Captain and Coaches).
Just imagine, the way Sarfraz was treated in world cup, leave performance, most players would have broken down. Well, when Sarfraz was made vice captain of T20I, and had sterling performance in matches, still Afridi (captain) and waqar (coach) did not hesitated to drop him from playing 11.
Players also see treatment of other players like Fawad (FC ave 57), Mujtaba (FC ave 49), Hasan Raza (FC ave 45), and others, that also make them feel nervous when selected. It naturally effect their performance on ground.
Similarly, if one see List A (domestic 50 over matches) averages of Karachi players, we see that those having averages over 45 get ignored ... for instance Fawad (ave 48), K Latif (ave 45), Khurram (ave 47), etc, ... but at the same time, players like Shahzad (ave 35), Hafiz (ave 35), Umar Akmal (ave 34), Kamran Akmal (ave 30) are regulars in national ODI team. If these players were so good than their averages in domestic games should be higher too, but they make 10 or more runs less per innings than some of Karachi players, but still are in team and Karachi guys are out. Kuch tou majra hay na? :)
So, maybe Sami's bowling performance in test could be result of other factors, as his performance in domestic cricket is similar to other Pakistani fast bowlers ... but then, you are right that Sami got enough test and his performance in test is questionable.
I think, Sarfraz is in national team, because he has cool nerve, and thus kept his nerve and performance intact under pressure and intimidation by coach and captain, else today he would not be playing in national level.
