AE I agree, and like I said, if the crowd was non-Pakistani, I would support her. However, the only people that were non-Pakistani were the ushers who let people in the gates and the policemen that were not looking really interested.
Ok, if I go with what you are saying, then I am sure those people didn't understand the songs nor the couple of skits that were performed in Urdu.

but that's part of the culture....that should be kept in it's original form. but the introductions and the MCing should be done in english IMO.
also...there are pakistani's that can't speak urdu (by no fault of their own)...does that mean they should be outcasted? There are some pakistani's that dont speak urdu but they still want to be a part of the culture and want to learn about their heritage.
No, they shouldn't be out casted, Urdu should be promoted among them so that they learn. I see 2 options. 1) Speak English so that it's easier for non-Urdu-Speaking-Pakistanis to understand or 2) Speak mix (if not all Urdu) so that they learn and are prepared for future events.
Personally, I would go with #2. Then from that point on, it should be PSA's job to promote Urdu on Campus (among Pakistani students). Putting burden on them all at once is wrong, I agree, but something should be done about it. They shouldn't just sit there saying oh well, they won't understand. Well, then do something about it.
ok yes…i agree with option 2. I dont know about other universities but our university offered Urdu classes (beginners and advanced). I got a 4 credit A in it
Dude Our university offered it too. I got lucky because they didn’t really have any rules etc as it was a new course. They had Urdu 1001, 1002, 2001, and 2002. You could enroll into the class but you would have to learn on your own because there was no teacher available. Then you would take a written test at the end of the semester and also over the phone with a professor in some other University.
The only condition at that time was that it must not be your foreign language (DUH!) so you actually LEARN it. No problem ma’am, my native language is Punjabi, which is completely different than Urdu. But I had learned Urdu since childhood and knew how to write/speak. So I enrolled in 2002, took the test and obviously got an A. Since there were no other rules, I automatically got 3 As in 1001, 1002, and 2001 Right after that semester, they changed the rules
Nope ... After last years show i pretty much gave up on PSA ...
it was more of an ISA show than PSA
i didnt understand their dances on Indian songs either..
for them playing Pakistani National anthem at the end of the show or runnig across the stage with Pakistani flag is enough to call it a PSA Night... they definatly need to put more effort in it
Dude... I really don't see what you're bickering about... the way I see it... the president really achieved the desired outcome in getting ppl to appreciate their culture and connect to their roots... see below:
I went to this "PSA" night last night. I'll keep it brief. The president said that we have gathered here to promote our culture and connect to our roots...
the event started 1+ hour late
*Check!
*
Some of the audiences were cheap - shouting nonsense at performersCheck!
There was no concept of a "LINE" when entering in the auditorium or getting food. People were standing in a group and shoving each other to go in.Check!
Assigned seating but not enforced - people sat wherever they felt like sitting and held many seats for people that weren't even there yet!Check!
Amen to the above... we've really managed to consistently hold on to values inculcated in us no matter where we are.

Well this was the first year I went to that event, as I recently moved to Houston. This year they started with the national anthem. Music system was having problems because the guitars were too loud and you could barely hear the guy sing the anthem.
I was looking for some outing on this boring Sunday night, mujhe kia pata tha khawari hogi It wasn’t all THAT bad but these listed things did bug me, especially because I have been in their shoes as a president and the way I ran PSA was totally different than how they ran it. Perhaps that’s what’s bugging me?
