Poorly written and biased article. I wonder should every country who has its citizens in Bahrain armed forces be called exporting mercenaries.

Who does have citizens in Bahrain armed forces? Do you think thats normal, do you think if thousands of Arabs or Americans started coming into Pakistan army that would be a normal thing?

Ties between Pakistan armed forces and gulf states are very old. Since 1960 army and naval officers have been deployed in gulf on deputation and many of them after retirement joined the gulf forces due to better salaries. There were no protests when they joined Bahrain forces. Most gulf states including Bahrainis used to send their officers to Pakistan for training.

That it is an old practice is something the article notes as well. That there were no protests is not surprising, protests in the Gulf are unprecedented till now. Sending officers for training is one thing, recruiting thousands of soldiers is another, especially when they start repressing a local uprising.
