Re: Protecting self against fraud ..

Last year my mum's bag was stolen which contacted highly personal information about nearly every member in my family. As a result my dad joined a fraud protection agency, as well as this scheme that our bank has. So now extra identity is required at the bank and the bank if in doubt over certain purchases, they will ring up and clarify if indeed the said person carried out the transaction.

The fraud agency does the same. They can ensure that any loans, bank accounts etc that are opened are in fact intended by the said party.

Shred all highly personal documents

Be extra vigilant when posting details about yourself on Facebook and other networking sites. These people only need your name, address and date of birth technically.

Different passwords and routinely change them. Make sure they are not 'common sensical' words associated with you.

Keep the most important documents in a safety deposit box at the bank.

Very good tips DDR … :hugz:

One of the friends who became the victim of fraud suspects his identity was stolen since he used to tear up the bank statements and other docs and throw them in the bin …

so yeah shreddingthem will defo reduce the chances of a stolen ID ..

And that is why I'm 17 on Fb :o

Re: Protecting self against fraud ..

No worries CB :)

Yes shred everything. Including junk mail, basically anything which has your details on it. If still in doubt, have a mini bonfire and burn all important documents which you are reluctant to throw out. I know it is drastic but who knows.
