Prophets & Their Ages

I am sorry for the "contradiction" that you see in the post. Infact the source for the date of "Noah's flood" was scientific. And a difference of a few centuries exists in their estimates. When i said that Ahraham must have seen Noah, that was based on another estimate by a muslim source where the dates were derived from the religious tradition of Bible and Muslim historians. I will clarify this after getting the facts and figures.

The "Jannat" (lit. a place covered in dense vegetation and trees, an orchid) i mentioned was the earthly paradise where soil was fertile and vegetation was abundant and people lived in peace. This Jannat has been described as reward for righteous muslims which they recieved when they conquered the lands of euphrates and Tigris and Nile, and later Indus and Ganges. The other paradise (the eternal abode for the rghteous after their death) is the one from where people will not be driven out ever. That is the promise of Allah.

:D......you seriously need to take some history and geography classes.

From Tafsir al Qurtubi under verse 29:14…

Qatada: He (Nuh) lived among them for 300 years before calling them (to Tawhid), he gave them da’wah for 300 years, and lived after the flood for 350 years = 950 years

Ibn Abbas: He was tasked (with Prophethood and da’wah) when he was 40 years of age, and stayed among his people for 950 years, and lived after the flood for 60 years = 1150 years (Ibn Kathir in his Tafsir seems to prefer this view).

Wahb: Nuh’s age was 1400 years

Ka’ab al Ahbar: Nuh was among his people for 950 years, and lived for 70 years after the flood and thus his age was 1120 years

Awn ibn Abi Shaddad: Nuh was tasked (to give da’wah) when he was aged 350 years, and stayed among his people 950 years, and lived after the flood for 350 years, and so his age was 1650 years (this view is rejected by Ibn Kathir in his Tafsir)

Al Hasan reports that when the Angel of Death came to Nuh (as) he asked: “O Nuh, how long have you lived in the world?” Nuh said: “300 years before i was tasked (with da’wah), and 950 years among my people, and 350 years after the flood.”

Ibn Kathir relates in his Tafsir:

“It is said that his age in its entirety was 950 years… yet this view is odd and the apparent understanding from the verse is that he lived among his people calling them to Allah for 950 years…”

Allah knows best.

Only Prophet who can be called ever living prophet and only religion which is the ever lasting religion is Muhammad (saw) and Islam.

The same principle is applied to the other prophets whose life spans have been given in the books. i.e., their dispensations spanned a certain era.

Quran says that Abraham (as) was follower of Noah. (37:83). My assumption on the basis of this fact was that if Abraham is called to be Noah’s follower than he must have met him during 950 years of his life. But the only explanation can be that at the end of 950 years of Noah’s ministry, Abraham (As) was raised to carryon the task.

^ So what did you mean when you said earlier on: "The 950 years refer to the time between him [Noah] and Abraham"?

And you don't have to have physically met someone to be a "follower" of their way...

yeah there are many true “followers” of muhammad :saw: today, and we pray to allah that we are among them, but now you will suggest that we are 1400 years old and have lived during his time?

^ Okay, come back when you've got your new "facts and figures" and changed the batteries in your calculator.
[/QUOTE]

yup, here are the facts and figures.

The date of Noah's flood was 2448 BC. According to the Jewish historian Josephus, Irish archbishop and chronologist James Ussher, and most conservative Christian scholars, the Flood of Noah's time occurred between 2500 BC and 2300 BC.

Abraham (as) was born in 2160 BC.

You do the maths. I am sure your calculator batteries are fine.

You mean today's facts and figures, before you contradict yourself and change them again.

Compared to your earlier date of 5600 BC!! This is all very interesting but can you tell us according to Josephus, Usher et al exactly when they say Noah DIED?

You need to be consistent... if you are using dates by Josephus, Usher et al for the flood (and hopefully now for Noah's death as well), then you need to quote what dates they gave for Abraham's birth. So what did they say?

Why don't you go search yourself and prove yourself right.

How come Noah lived to be 950. but Ibraheem (as) and the subsequent prophets had a sharp decline in their life span. Could the reason be that people started to record events and dates?

^ Do your own homework...

Quran 25:14
*And verily we sent Noah (as Our messenger) unto his folk, and he stayed with them for a thousand years save fifty years; and the flood engulfed them, for they were wrong-doers. *

what is it from this that u ppl dont understand????
straight and direct tells show u that he lived for 950 years....

^ Or that he lived at least 950 years... see ThandyMazaq's suggestion above and earlier posted commentaries from al Qurtubi and Ibn Kathir...

Sure Ahmadi and Qadiyani have their own understanding of Quran and Allah swt knows why is it so hard for them to understand plain text.

Historical facts are all you need to understand plain text. Average lifespan of humans 10,000 years ago was far less then today.

But hold on.. Adam (the first human) was sent to earth 6000 years ago!!!

So we shouldn't even think about human life on earth before that.. that would be heresay. right?

Did you meet Adam 6000 years ago? How can you say that? It could be 18000 or 34,000 years.

There is a chain of prophets listed in the first post. Just have a look. Noah was from the 10th generation of Adam. Abraham was around a couple of centuries before Moses. Abraham was from 5th or 6th generation after Noah. Jesus came 1500 years after Moses.

Here you go.. Sum of human history.:)

So when are you going to present some historical "facts"?

First post barely lists the ages of Prophets, it does not establish chain. Difference of time between two prophets are our estimates, not established facts which could be verified as flood in Noah AS's time.

Family trees and parentage of all biblical prophets has been documented.
