The non-functional CJ who I respected till recently, has now once and for all proved that he is nothing but a tool of the opposition political parties. A Chief Justice is supposed to be above these sort of things, and be completely neutral - in fact that is his constitutional duty. He is not supposed to making overtly political statements in front of thousands of political party workers, and being garlanded by them like some anti-govt mascot. Ch. Iftikhar has proved by his actions he in no way a neutral judge, can never be again, and he has indeed not only divided the superior judiciary, but also compromised it's independence totally.
He never made any political statement in his speeches, he did not endorse or oppose any political party or government. Unless you think endorsing human rights is politics.
No political worker was allowed inside the LHR high court.
You shud admit that people across Pakistan have shown whom they favour. Nothing of this sort of reception has been given to anybody during my lifetime.

Only because of this “scale” of yours, Pakistan is suffering today.
No Politician has ever accepted that he/she is corrupt, no case has been proved against them (not even against Altaf Hussain), so by your scale, they all are clean…
MQM has never endorsed the terrorisms, so by your scale, they are clean too…
What you are failing to accept my dear is called “Ground Reality” and that is that CJ is now fully involved in Politics and has lost the ground against the Reference. Rather than flying to Lahore, he decided to go by road to do all these political gimmicks (btw he used to insist on charter plane when he was CJ)
oh and most of the CJ supporters (in those marches) are not supporting him becasue of him, but they are supporting him becasue they are against Musharraf. It is not the case of hub-e-Ali 
instead its bughz-e-Mawiya

Might I add, several former judges and CJP's have an opinion that is diametrically opposed to urs. I share their view. What r u going to do? Its ur word against mine. I don't see this going anywhere.
Isnt this quite "amaizing" how insaf pasand ppl are "objecting" different top judges of Pakistan?
There is only one case in Pakistan's history where CJP was tried before this and that was Justice Sajjad's case. In that case, Justice Sajjad objected to 5 or six judges of the full bench. Going by ur line of argument, he was not insaaf pasand either. Don't be selective my friend :)

CJ was not ousted coz of the silly charges that even do not amount to corruption, he was ousted for not dancing to gov’s tunes.
I agree that this movement is actually a movement of distrust aganist the gov.

Yaar in Pakistan its always "Ulta chor kotwaal ko datay", its just that chor and kotwaal in Pakistan interchange roles too frequently.

ایک ایسا انکاری کردار جس نے ملک میں جرنیلوں کی طاقت اور لاقانونیت کے آگے گھٹنے ٹیکنے کی بجائے ملک میں قانون کی بالادستی کی بات کی ہے۔ لکیر کھینـچی جا چکی ہے، طبل بج چکا ہے۔ ایک وہ جرنیل اور انکے حاشیہ بردار شیدے پستول ٹائپ ہیں جو لاقانونیت کے پروردہ ہیں۔
قاسم جلالی کے ڈرامے ’شمع‘ میں اداکار جمشید انصاری کا کردار تھا ’میرے پاس چقو ہے چقو‘ بالکل اسی طرح وزیر اعظم شوکت عزیز کے پاس’ایمرجنسی‘ کےہتھیار والے اختیارات ہیں۔
اور دوسری طرف انصاف اور قانون کی بالادستی سے محروم عوام ہے جسے پاکستان جیسے ملک میں امید کی چھوٹی سی کرن چیف جسٹس افتخار محمد چودھری کے روپ میں دیکھنے کو ملی ہے۔
میں سوچ رہا ہوں اس بچارے پاکستان کے عوام کا کیا ہوگا؟ اگر جنرل اپنی انا اور ضد چھوڑ کر خاموشی سے چیف جسٹس کے خلاف ریفرنس واپس لیتے ہوئے انہیں اپنے عہدے پر بحال کردیں۔ اگر پاکستان کے جنرل اور جج اتنے عاقبت اندیش ہوتے تو اکثر عوام آج تک بھٹو کا رونا نہ رو رہے ہوتے۔ آپ نے سنا کہ سابق جسٹس نسیم حسن شاہ نے بھی اب کہہ دیا کہ انہوں نے بھٹو کے خلاف پھانسی کے فیصلے پر دستخط ’غلطی‘ سے کیے تھے۔
پاکستان کی تاریخ کتنی جلاد صفت ثابت ہوئی ہے کہ جنرل مشرف کے ایک ہاتھ پر احمد رضا قصوری کھڑے ہیں تو دوسرے ہاتھ پر بینظیر بھٹو انکی بیعت کرنا چاہتی ہیں۔
جیسا استقبال جسٹس افتخار چودھری کا ہو رہا ہے ایسا امریکہ میں راک سٹارز کا ہوا کرتا ہے۔ سڑکیں یا تو چیف جسٹس پر نچھاور کیے جانے والے پھولوں سے سرخ ہیں یا پھر انکے مداحوں پر پولیس اور ایجینسیوں کی لاٹھیوں سے بہتے خون سے:
کنڈیاں تے ٹُر کے آئے تیرے کول پیروانڑیں
اگوں تینڈی مرضی ڈھولا توں جانڑیں یا نہ جانڑیں **
**یہ ہیں دریاۓ جہلم پر بسنے والے لوگ اور انکے گیت جو اس دن چیف جسٹس کیلیے لاٹھی گولی کھا کر پہنچے تھے۔
گجرات میں گھوڑوں کا ناچ، ڈھول تاشے اور ہزاروں کا استقبال دیکھ مجھے پنجابی لکھاری سلیم پاشا کی سطریں یاد آتی ہیں ’دوجے پاسے چودھری اعتزاز کلم کلیاں چیف جسٹس نوں اپنی گڈی وچ بٹھا کے جٹ کچہری چڑہدا نظری آندا ہے تے لوکی آپے اوہدے پچھے پچھے نعرے لاندے ٹر پیندے نے۔`
کہنے والے کہتے ہیں چودھری برادران ان کے مری کے پہاڑوں پر ہاؤسنگ پروجیکٹس کا کیس اٹھانے پر چیف جسٹس سے سخت ناراض ہیں۔
ساہیوال کے وکلاء کے پرامن مشعل بردار جلوس پر جو لاٹھی چارج اور حملہ پنجاب پولیس نے کیا ہے وہ حکمرانوں کو چودھری ہٹلر بنا دیتا ہے۔ کیا اس ریاست کا لاٹھی گولی کے بل بوتے کے علاوہ قانونی و اخلاقی جواز باقی رہ جاتا ہے جہاں کا چیف جسٹس بھی انصا ف سے محروم اور حکمرانوں کا معتوب بنا ہوا ہو۔
پنجاب اور باقی ملک کی سڑکوں پر عوامی فیصلہ چیف جسٹس کے حق میں آچکا ہے۔ اب دیکھنا یہ ہے کہ گیند کورٹ میں ہے، یا بقول شخصے ’ کورٹ مشرف کے بال‘ میں ہے؟

well your word which is backed by Pakistan's foremost legal opinion, judges and lawyers. So the argument should go somewhere because your opinion is backed by evidence.

President Musharraf's limited options

The triumphal road show taken by Pakistan's chief justice at the weekend has been hailed by local commentators as an "epic journey" with "few parallels in the country's history".
Tens of thousands of lawyers, political activists, and members of the public turned out to cheer on Iftikhar Chaudhry as he drove from Islamabad to Lahore.
Mr Chaudhry is whipping up support against his suspension by President Pervez Musharraf, who is also head of the army.
The general temporarily removed the top judge from office to face charges of misconduct two months ago.
The chief justice called this a blatant attack on the independence of the judiciary.
This is the third time Mr Chaudhry has taken his campaign on the road. He was well received in the provinces of Sindh and North West Frontier.
Emerging consensus
But both those trips were dwarfed by the massive turnout in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, which is the legal and political heartland of Pakistan.
Thus it appears the judicial crisis has the potential to turn into a nationwide challenge to the government, especially because protests in Mr Chaudhry's favour have long since turned into a broader campaign against military rule.
For the past two months no other topic has gripped the country's pundits, political players, scribes and chattering classes like this one.
Broadly speaking, the emerging consensus is that the president has four options.
- To ride out the crisis in the hope that the protests run out of steam. The experience of Lahore suggests that is not working.
- He could simply accept that he had been wrongly advised, reinstate the chief justice, and look for a scapegoat. But many say it is too late for that now.
- He could declare a state of emergency and impose martial law. That might lead to violence on the streets, and to international condemnation, including from his strategic ally the United States.
- He could reach out to the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) of Benazir Bhutto, generally seen as the most popular political force in the country. According to the rumoured outlines of such a deal, corruption charges against Ms Bhutto would be dropped and she would be allowed to return from exile, if the PPP supported General Musharraf's presidency. However, the PPP says it will not accept the president if he stays on as army chief. President Musharraf has warned lawyers not to exploit a "purely constitutional and judicial matter" for political gain. He says he has nothing personal against Mr Chaudhry and will accept whatever verdict the courts deliver in the case. But the longer the protests go on, the more questions there are about the general's future and how the crisis will affect his plans. President Musharraf wants to be re-elected this autumn by the outgoing parliament before it is dissolved for national polls. And it is believed he wants to keep his post as army chief. Both steps could be contested. The view of many analysts is that President Musharraf moved against Justice Chaudhry because he wanted a more pliable man in place to face any constitutional challenges to his plans. It is not clear what will happen, but it is clear the status quo is shaky: extending nearly eight years of military rule is looking increasingly untenable.
