Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

It sure gonna get over 100 replies. I finally gotta channel where I can watch all soccer games in Europe. I promise I’ll be active to post though I can’t promise it will be on time.

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

Very impressive debut. But just for those that never saw him really playing. A lot of people tought Robinho was like Denilson, they think the kid can’t score. Now they will see how good he is. Robinho is an amazing player and will make a great impact in Spain, overall Europe for sure. It sucks that such a talented player went to a team that sells jerseys, but doesn’t win games.

Anyway, here is Highlights from the game.

That first touch he takes where he flips it over the guy is unbelieveable.

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

Booo. Serie A sucks. Lets talk about Bundesliga :D
Just kiddin. But getting back to the Premiership, do you think that by acquiring Micheal Owen Newcastle has improved their chances of winning the championship? I seriously doubt it but anything could happen. I would have been happier if he was in the reds uniforms once again.

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

Newcastle has decent individuals but isnt a particularly impressive team...but the fact is Owen scores wherever he goes so Newcastle will do better than they have done...they should aim for a champions league spot...whether they get that remains to be seen...i reckon they will be a top 6 side this season though...
Tottenham are a good side and i think they could be the shock package this season...but none of these sides will touch Chelsea, Arsenal or Man U who are in a class of their own...

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

Mikel ‘set for United deal’

so this is how Man U will be look like:

----Ronaldo----Ruud-----Rooney

----Jones-----Mikel------Fletcher

Heinze—Brown-----Rio-----Gazza

---------------VDS---------------

Good to hear he’s coming to his senses.

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

Manu dropped points in city derby while Arsenal shockingly lost to Middlesbrough. I think Arsenal is likely to finish without a champions league spot this season. Chelsea on the other hand are yet to concede a goal and maintain 100 percent record. This million dollar team will take some beating :hehe:

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

Arsenal dominated the game and lost..LOL - they definitely miss Henry.

Who saw how Ruud slapped David James’ hand when he was throwing the ball? :hehe: :k:

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

^ I missed it but will catch up in highlights.

Real madrid lost 2-3 at home to newly promoted celta viego  What a shame!!

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

big shock for Real Madrid losing to newly promoted Celta Vigo!!! esp with old boy Tony Nunez on the score sheet!

Internazionale lost 3-2 away to Palermo
AC Milan won 3-1 at home to Siena!
Bayern Munchen won 2-1 againt Nurenburg which saw them equal their own record of 19 straight Bundesliga wins!

European Champions Liverpool FC managed a 0-0 draw at Tottenham in a highly entertaining game with chances at both ends. selling Milly Baros will prove to be a huge mistake for Red Rafa. esp as we didnt land another striker.
Joaquin today confirmed interest in possibily joining LFC, stating ‘itd be a dream to link up with Benitez and the spanish lads’ …but i think its just him starting the mind games for the European Cup game in midweek!

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

Juventus look like a very solid team. They won 4-0 today.

They're comparable to Chelsea on all departments and are probably slightly better:

Capello > Mourinho

Buffon = Cech

Cannavaro + Thuram > Terry + Gallas

Emerson + Vieira = Lampard + Makalele

Nedved + Camoranesi < Robben + Duff

Ibrahimovic + Trezeguet + Del Piero >> Drogba + Crespo + Gudjonsson

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

^ What about Chelsea's bench strength?Juve edge Chelsea out only in strikers department.

Essien, Joe Cole, Wright Phillips, Carvalho, Cudicini, and the list goes on.

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

^exactly, but if all those players don't get playing time and rhythm, they won't be any better than the Blasis and Zalayetas on Juve's bench, so it won't make much of difference.

Furthermore, Juve is an Italian team, which naturally knows how to play the defensive game, whereas chelsea is more artificial

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

Chelsea gets a slight lead over ManU but with RVN scoring in every game, ManU can balance that.

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

^

Comparing Chelsea and Juventus makes no sense. (Juve represents glory, they are the most successful club in Italia, they have won international championships, they have Del Pierro). Teams like Chelsea who win a premiership every 50 years must not be compared with clubs like Juventus who have a long history.

Chelsea can be compared with Italian teams like Udinese, however.

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

^ History doesnt win you premierships or Serie As. Nescio's point was about current teams and it will be foolish to say that Chelsea are NOT a european powerhouse with the current squad they have.

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

Yes,. sometimes defensive football doesnt really suit Chelsea with the players they have.

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

^ It is about consistency. Juventus are always favorites to win the Italian titles and they enter in the Champions League as favorites too. Same applies to GOOD SOCCER clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Munich, ManU, Milan, Inter,......These are "soccer clubs" not the POWERHOUSES that require Russian money to compete.

In no sense Chelsea or Arsenal are compareable to Milan, Juve, Madrid. It can happen on BBC.

UEFA Cup and some top leagues

Most English managers will disagree that European competitions provide a good way to test the quality of local competitions, but it still is. English clubs, over-rated in media usually fail to perform against their European counterparts, and then their managers issue such statements. Arsenal is a good example. It is not very uncommon to find it rated better than successful clubs like Milan and Madrid, but Arsenal has always failed to prove this in European competitions. But then European competitions are just for FUN. Everton were defeated by some score, overall a good start for English clubs:

Dinamo Bucuresti 5 - 1 Everton
Middlesbrough 2 - 0 FC Xanthi
Bolton 2 - 1 Lokomotiv Plovdiv

This is not just limited to English clubs, there are other examples. AZ Alkmaar, one of the top teams (at present) in Dutch leagues, scored 17 goals in just 4 games while conceded just 1, were defeated in UEFA cup too with a big score line.

Krylia Sovetov** 5 - 3** AZ Alkmaar
Banik Ostrava 2 - 0 Heerenveen
Monaco 2 - 0 Willem II Tilburg
Feyenoord Rotterdam 1 - 1 Rapid Bucuresti

Spanish clubs, were no exception and they started bad too.
FK Teplice 1 - 1 **Espanyol
*
Rennes **3 - 1* Osasuna
FC Sevilla 0 - 0 Mainz

Mixed performance from German clubs who claim to be the best in Europe.

VfB Stuttgart 2 - 0 Domzale
Apoel Nicosia 0 - 1 Hertha Berlin
Hamburg SV 1 - 1 FC Copenhagen
Bayer Leverkusen 0 - 1 CSKA Sofia

Italian teams, failing when they are expected to deliver, started well, as they do most of the times. Roma, won with big lead at home.

Roma 5 - 1 Aris Salonika
Palermo 2 - 1 Anorthosis Famagusta
Vitoria Setubal 1 - 1 Sampdoria

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

Go check Juve and Chelsea seedings for this CL. Not that I agree with them though but they are seeded in similar bracket.

Re: Premiership - La Liga - Serie A 05-06

Yes they are, like Arsenal always started their past CL compaigns as favorites rated well over Milan, Madrid, and always failed to deliver and then claiming that CL does not test the quality of a team.

Chelsae are a better team than Arsenal and they can (perhaps) compete with European elite at this moment, but they are still a club who can shine for a couple of years. Not a regular club like Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, Juventus, Ajax, Munich… who perform every season and can generate revenues by their own to plan next seasons.

In EPL, there have been many examples in the past like Rovers and Leeds. Where are they now??? The only difference that gives Chelsea an upper hand is their Russian Link. With a spending of about half a billion within 2-3 years, any club can be a potential contender in EPL and CL.
