Re: Pre-School VS Montessori
Right, I need to say it in a Candian accent...makes sense now.

Re: Pre-School VS Montessori
but but but isn't it an italian name? i bet everyone would laugh at how the italians say it.
plus i have been scarred by years of hearing it said in all funny ways back home in india. ms. monteshwari lived in india for a good while and spread her gospel out there.
(course, not quite as fashionable when one gets to know that desis had this system adopted before the north americans)
Re: Pre-School VS Montessori
how were you saying it before Milly?
Mon-TES-sori?
Re: Pre-School VS Montessori
'Montess - ori'
To be honest, I cannit do a Candian accent. Im very good at national accents, but not international accents. Unless Punjabi counts. Hmmm, Montessori in Punjabi. Queer...help us out smog!
Re: Pre-School VS Montessori
Just wondering, how do the parents react when you tell them this? I imagine no matter how you convey that message, there are some that would still take offense to it due to ego/being status conscious?
Sara, normally parents can see the child is having difficulty, before anything like this is suggested, we go through tons of interventions to help the child. However, when and if it is mentioned, it is mentioned in a very positive manner, lot of options are discussed with the parents. Honestly, I am not sure how private schools handle such situation, I have always worked with public/charter schools, so we do get a mix of children from various backgrounds. We had to remove a child from our program as his actions were pretty dangerous for him and all of us in the class. Again, 99% of the time, we try our best to accommodate a child and meet his/her needs but there are times when have to present parents with other options.
Re: Pre-School VS Montessori
this thread needs to come back to life for those of us who are now researching pre k, Montessori systems.
read the whole thing and this was v v informative.
have there been any changes to your perspectives? any more insight/info to add?
my baby is just about turning 16 months and i was blown away recently by some colleagues when they said I need to start interviewing/looking into these things
…
im still not over the trauma of that suggestion fully
… esp since I’ve not even introduced her to babysitters/daycare yet ![]()
so dear moms and dads out there … how old were your babies when you put them into educational facilities? and did you ease them into it by doing babysitting … day care then Montessori/pre k???
Re: Pre-School VS Montessori
mine was dropped off at Montessori pre-school when she was 3 years and 3 months old…before that I was home with her all the time.
she had no previous exposure to daycare or baby sitters.
Re: Pre-School VS Montessori
My daughter was 2 years and 10 months when she started pre-nursery (Montessori) . Before that she used to be with my mom at our home till I came back from work . She didn’t go to any playgroup or daycare etc before she started pre-nursery. I just put her in a play group for a couple of days then withdrew her because I just didn’t feel it was right and safe for her to go there at such a young age when she could not even speak properly.
Now that she is going she can tell me the daily happenings …what went good and what went wrong. It has been a good journey so far a million Thanks to Allah for it.
