I have used Loreal Artec Texture Line Hotstyle Ironing Creme for the past 7 years now. It is the only product I have ever used before straightening. Afterwards I use the same companies smoothing serum. A few drops gets you really far. L’Oreal Professionnel Textureline Smoothing Serum - ARTec - straightening gels & creams

The stuff is a bit pricier but not ridiculous especially when you consider that it lasts you forever. I found that cheaper drugstore brand stuff just weighed my hair down too much and made it look oily looking quicker.
