Re: potluck

lol...look what i started..lol..

well i narrowed my choices for the office potluck..either: gajar ka halwa, channa chaat, koftai, zarda, or kari (my mom's suggestion..)...would white pple like kari?

Re: potluck

Afshan: I don't know if whitel ppl will like kari but i know their sensitive tummies won't be able to handle the besan....so they may end up spending rest of the afternoon in the bathroom......

Agar kuch aise gorays han whom you don't like much i would serve kari:)

Re: potluck

Rukhsar: I want to eat chana chaat but not make it :bummer: Maybe after Jummah prayers i will gather my lazy self and make some.

Re: potluck

true true mahru....they all might turn on me after having the kari..lol..so i guess i could rule that out (too bad, since my mom was saying that was the most easiest thing to make....since i was depending on her to "help" me make a dish...lol)

Re: potluck

:rotfl:

Mahru it took me 20 minutes max to make chana chaat - get the canned garbanzo beans and put them in the microwave w/ hot water for about 5 minutes so they are tender :yummy:

Re: potluck

gosh those things take such a long time to make!

Re: potluck

share the recipe of chana chaat...somebody.

Re: potluck

DB

The qeema stuffed aalu cutlets - I tried to make them once. It was very difficult to first make the aaluu tikki b/c it doesn't roll very easily, and then to stuff it with keema falling all over the place and then to try to close all the edges. Is there something wrong I'm doing? Should something be added to the potatoes so they hold better?

They tasted great, just making it was so disheartening because each one looked different and it was difficult to hold together. I never attempted to make them again. Any tips?

Re: potluck

well i ended up bringing cholay chaat to the office potluck...thanks mom!!!

Re: potluck

Re: potluck

Re: potluck

hmmm… I think I can relate. The key to it is that the potatoes must be real finely mashed. Take a little ball of it in ur palm (The tiki shud not be bigger than the size of ur palm), just as much as u can hold, no more, and put only bit of a spoon of qeema. Then try to fold the edges around the qeema. tricky but can be done. I wet my hands with water before, and if there’s some hold or something in the stuffed potato, just wet ur fingers with water and smooth the defect out. Keep on rolling it around in ur palm carefully, and then the oil must be med hot. Keep rolling the ball quickly in the oil while frying, otherwise it starts flaking. I got them rite second time I did them. First time they were breaking apart while frying :frowning: But hey Determination is the key to go :k:
