LOL sara you are awesome and what you’re saying is 100% true. Its a compliment that people would go consider wearing their finest clothes and jewelry at your wedding. I was a bit insulted when my sister’s friends half assed at her wedding, at my best friend’s wedding I would go all out. There aren’t enough chances to get all decked up in life.

It really is kinda insulting to dress anything less than great at a wedding..in fact, at my cousin’s valima my brother wore jeans and sneakers and a pullover sweater coz he was “mad” at the guy..

That’s perfectly alright, if you don’t know the couple very well, or if this is a gora wedding. But in a desi wedding, it’s very common, and appropriate even, for close friends/relatives of the bride and groom to wear their own wedding dress and/or jewelery and get their hair and makeup done.

Everybody wants to look their best at a wedding, no matter if they’re single, married, have kids, whatever. What do you expect the girls to do? On one hand, theyre supposed to spend craploads of money adn go through so much effort and expend energy for a beautiful jora and set.. and then what? lock it away? That’s such gora-thinking.

At my mehndi, my younger jethani wore the set she wore on her wedding, and the next day, my other jethani wore her wedding jora and I’m 10000% positive that they were not trying to compete with me. Of course it’s not their day and I know it won’t be my day again, and I am perfectly happy to not have to sit there with a 20 pound duputta pulling on my fake hair

Also…I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, NOONE can compete with the bride. Unless you enter the hall with a bunch of girls holding your lengha up, and you sit up on stage with your eyes cast down, and your husband is wearing a pagree/sherwani, you can not possibly upstage the bride.

i guess since most pakistani brides spend their entire wedding day sitting on a stage looking down, they wouldnt even realise what anyone was wearing to be offended by it

i understand what you’re saying, sara, but its still weird to me. my family and girlfriends will absolutely be dressed up to the nines, but they’re going to be keeping my wedding colors in mind so they don’t end up matching either the bridal party or me. i fully believe that at your wedding, you should be the one standing out. and if theres no stage and you’re all for mingling, dancing and chatting people up, well then, you gotta work the dress and the jewellery and the hair to stand out. and for that matter, my family completely understands and they’ve all been wanting to know what they should wear and what colors are in our bridal party, so they dont blend in.

lady, where’d you get those pics from? thats my friend noreen and her hubby ryaz! haha, so funny. i guess with the number of pics being posted i should have known i’d see someone i knew on here eventually…
i saw the first pic and i thought, hrm, that combo of red/royal blueish purple is quite unusual and i know noreen had that in her dress, and then i go to the next pic and there they are. lol

Makeup galli-walon se karwaya tha.. u know those no-name parlours, that are super dirt-cheap (and for good reason)… oh and also, the lights kept going out..including their generator.. so her makeup was pretty much done in the dark :halo:
