We do that on both side's of my family (however slightly differently), though thankfully hubby and I escaped due to chaos from rain on the evening of our wedding. The way my dad's side does it is that groom's siblings hold the bride's hand (or if the kheer is in a spoon that she is holding, they hold it too) and take turns keeping it away from him. On my mom's side I find it even grosser, because the groom's brothers/cousins try to get at the kheer themselves, before he can.

^ I feel like all of these rasams are a way to get the bride and groom to loosen up around each other after the wedding, since often they didn't know each other. But tasting the sweet treat in the bride's hands seems far too symbolic to be done in public.

But it happens anyway, and it's simultaneously awkward and funny and sometimes even sweet.
