Girl Found Alive in Iranian Quake Rubble

May more good news come…

the latest here

Iran quake toll could reach 50,000

*Survivors are still being pulled out - but there may not be many more

The death toll from Friday’s earthquake in the Iranian city of Bam could rise to 50,000, national and regional officials said on Tuesday. *

Very sad news indeed.
Whats even more worst is the fact that the American Media are not even giving much light on this tragedy.
I remember after 9/11, all the news were completely dedicated to the attacks, but not this time.
As a matter of a fact, the headline news yesterday during ABC NEWS in the evening was about a cow infected with Mad Cow disease in Washington State, and the news of the earthquake was shown after the latter.

UTD - Unlike you said Humans come first before Muslim, Christian, Jews, here in America it is America first then human second.

Xpress you are wrong. Look up the amount of money, the number of organizations, that give to 3rd world causes, the United States and American people will top those lists. Americans are among the most generous in the world, does that upset you?

All Major news websites had the Iran earthquake the lead story. Nightlines story last night was the earthquake. If you’re going to make up things put it in the joke section.

Xpress:

You also fail to consider that the Iranians really don’t want to publicize the role of the US in helping out in this tragedy.

This from Reuters:

"The United States, still called ‘the Great Satan’ by Iran’s fundamentalist hard-liners, broke off diplomatic relations after the 1979 Islamic revolution.
The State Department said a telephone exchange after the quake between Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage and Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Mohammad Javad Zarif, marked a rare but not unprecedented direct exchange between the two countries.

Early on Monday, an Air Force C-17 plane from Charleston landed at Kerman, about 100 miles northwest of Bam, carrying 68 medical experts and 40,000 pounds of blood and other medical supplies, the Pentagon’s joint transportation command said in a statement.

Over the weekend, other U.S. military planes ferried dozens more rescue and relief experts and tonnes more medical and humanitarian supplies into Iran from stocks in both the United States and Kuwait, the statement said.

It added that the planes were the first military aircraft to have landed in Iran since the end of the Iranian hostage crisis in 1981. A spokesman could not say how much the assistance was worth or whether there would be more airlifts.

Deputy State Department spokesman Adam Ereli told reporters the United States was prepared to send more aid if needed. "

Do you think for one minute that Iranian TV is showing pictures or reporting that US military planes are landing on Iranian soil and that the US is providing substantial aid and assistance to the Iranians as we speak? We are slowly (ever so slowly) making positive inroads in our relationship with Iran and helping in a low key manner is undoubtedly extremely important in keeping that process moving forward.

The Bush Administration itself is not trying to make a big deal out of what we are doing. This happens to be an example where the humanitarianism of the US is being freely given in circumstances where we know neither the Iranian people nor the rest of the world will likely hear much about the good we are trying to do.

I saw the Nightline last night...it is really moving to see what has happened. This is something that could happen to anyone of us anywhere in the world...all homes fell flat..you can see trees standing and some walls or gates standing...some people lost whole families..one or two survived...what a tragedy....I can't even imagine how it feels to lose everyone you know in the neighourhood...the place your called home, streets, the mohallas neighborhood..all gone..and you survive standing on the rubble...that could be the worst thing to happen to anyone...survivors are the ones who are suffering the worst.

US should do more to help the victims of this tragedy...if relations improve as a result that should be seen later...not now.

** HOW???? **

I am so tired of hearing the US should do more about this. The US should do more about that.

Exactly what more shall we do? Do you even know what we are doing? Aren't we limited in what we can do to what the Iranian government will permit us to do?

After the 1990 quake that killed 30,000 in Iran, the Iranian government refused to accept ANY help from us although it was offered. I guess we should have done more then too even though what we offered was rejected.

In this quake, the Iranians are accepting help offered from everyone EXCEPT Israel. They rejected Israeli offers of help. You might as well say the Israelis should do more.

Not quite…

Iran thanks U.S. for quake aid Toronto Star 30 Dec 03

President insists humanitarian aid separate from political reality

BAM, Iran - Iran’s president today thanked his country’s biggest enemy, the United States, for sending help after this weekend’s devastating earthquake as survivors mobbed relief trucks and bulldozers dug trench after trench to fill with the bodies of the dead. …

^ Please DHP. You think a public thank you from Iran detracts from anything I wrote? Give me a break OK.

Us helping and the Iranian government saying thanks is about as far as this will get publicized. You don't see CNN, Fox or Al Jazeera broadcasting pictures from the landing strips showing US soldiers and military personnel unloading or delivering aid and/or helping dig people out of the rubble do you? You don't see pictures of Iranians thankful for receiving food, water and blankets courtesy of the US do you? God forbid this image would compete for airtime against images of some US soldier hitting some Iraqi with a rifle butt.

It is in the US interest to try to have better relations with Iran. You can be sure that these positive images of the US are not being repressed by the US government to prevent people from thinking we are getting soft on Muslims. The quiet way the US humanitarian effort is being conducted is most certainly an Iranian request/demand and not a US imposed thing. The frustrating thing from the standpoint of the average American citizen is that this humanitarian relief effort will not be known and will easily be forgotten by those who will chant how anti-Muslim and greedy we are. I've got to say, providing all this humanitarian relif to Iran is one clever way to win a war on Islam.

I suppose you’ve got a point myvoice..

Iran thanks “nice people” in US, not Bush](http://www.iranmania.com/News/ArticleView/Default.asp?NewsCode=21123&NewsKind=Current%20Affairs) Iran Mania News 30 Dec 03

BAM, Iran, Dec 30 (AFP) - A senior Iranian official on Thursday thanked “nice people” in the United States for sending humanitarian aid to the victims of last week’s Bam earthquake, but said the gesture had not changed the Islamic regime’s loathing of US President George W. Bush. …

Death toll could be up to 50,000 :frowning:

Thousands sleep in open as Iran quake toll climbs](http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/s1018345.htm) ABC News, Australia 31 Dec 03

Officials say the death toll from Iran’s earthquake could jump to 50,000, as relief workers plead for more aid for survivors of the disaster in the south-eastern city of Bam.

A senior Interior Ministry official said: “If we consider that, on average, five people lived in each house we can say the death toll will reach 50,000.” That prediction sharply raises the projected tally from the nearly 30,000 already buried. Another senior official confirmed the forecast of 50,000 deaths, although President Mohammad Khatami called it premature. …

I think instead of focusing on "US should do more", we should take it upon ourselves to do more. Why expect others to do it? Whatever help is provided by whomever, we should be thankful.

God give patience to the families of deceased.

Waugh aids Iranian appeal

Australian captain Steve Waugh is to auction the shirt he wore in his final Test at Melbourne to raise money for the Iranian earthquake disaster fund.

Waugh, who will retire in the Sydney New Year Test, has had his shirt signed by all Australia’s players and their Indian opponents.

It will be framed and auctioned on the internet site e-bay. Waugh said: **“We’ve all been extremely saddened by the news coming out of Iran over the last couple of days.”

The record-breaking cricketer added: "Our thoughts are with all those who have been impacted by this tragedy - especially the Iranians in Australia who have lost loved ones back home.

“It’s difficult to comprehend destruction of this scale and we hope our donation will assist in the fundraising effort.” **

Global aid agencies have launched urgent appeals for donations to help those affected by the earthquake in Bam, Iran.

Tens of thousands of people are desperately in need of food, water and shelter following the devastating quake, the worst in the region for more than a decade.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has launched a preliminary appeal for £8.67 million to assist survivors.

The death toll from could rise to 50,000.

Iran (Reuters) - Aftershocks struck fresh fear into the survivors of Iran’s devastating earthquake that killed at least 30,000 people.

**Aftershocks Strike Fear Into Iran Quake Survivors **](http://wireservice.wired.com/wired/story.asp?section=Breaking&storyId=810462&tw=wn_wire_story) Wired News 31 Dec 03

“It felt like an underground train hitting a bad piece of track,” one witness said after four aftershocks shook the ancient Silk Road city of Bam on Wednesday in the wake of last Friday’s quake. Medics and the Iranian army said on Wednesday at least five more people, including an 80-year-old woman, had been pulled alive from the rubble in Bam in the last 48 hours.

But officials said the death toll from one of the worst disasters of recent decades may climb to 50,000 and most rescue teams have abandoned the search for more survivors. U.N. officials said about 40,000 people were now left in Bam – most spending the bitterly cold nights in tents – out of an original population of 103,000. The remainder were either dead, missing, in hospital or had left town. …

I heard in the news that a man was pulled out alive after 6 days..

And the spirit of giving only happens with christians because why?

Shame on you CM for that comment.

Edit... Shame on me. I was reading that you thought the Christians should cheer when they donate. I am so sorry.

Please forgive me.
