Re: polycystic ovarian syndrome
It affects women in different ways. I found that just by losing weight (20 lbs), my menstrual cycle became normal. For me weight control was crucial. I've dealt with it for over 15 yrs, and am finally free of it because I lost weight and started taking better care of my body. But that's not always the situation, so it varies from female to female. Probably the most important thing you can do to control it without medication is to make sure u keep ur body healthy in every way. Don't gain weight, or try hard to drop it if you do. It should go a long way towards normalizing your menses. Birth control pills will normalize your cycle, but bear in mind, you'll be more prone in the beginning to gaining weight when you go on the pill. You have to try really hard and work towards keeping yourself fit. Because later, when you try to get pregnant and you're off the pill, you'll find it will be much harder if you've gained weight from being on the pill. So good luck, and don't let it get you down! It's not life-threatening, and it will NOT ruin your life. There are many ways now to deal with it and have a happy, normal life.
