Re: Police in Hamas-ruled Gaza shave heads of youths with long or gel-styled hair
where did i say Palestinians are living hunky dory? i am pointing out the misery brought on them by hamas actions .....which part do you differ? that hamas did not fire rockets on israel in last 3 weeks? did you read my post?
"Did you read my post"...I should ignore this post because of that refrain. Don't flatter yourself...nothing of consequence was written that wasn't addressed in my sardonic response. You're drawing a false causality. As mentioned already by others, Hamas firing rockets, and indeed finding themselves in power, is precisely because of the situation the Palestinians og Gaza are in.
Nothing else you've added changes that fact. Is Hamas cracking down on dress and style? Sure. Do they have a mandate from the people to do so? We'll know for sure next election.
What I can fault the police with is taking summary action. That does not bode well for Hamas and their style of rule.
Re: Police in Hamas-ruled Gaza shave heads of youths with long or gel-styled hair
That maybe true, but we are not taking about that. We are taking about Hamas police forcibly shaving men heads in Gaza. And that is not only true in Gaza, but just one example what people do in the name of religions. Once Islamists take over any place, first to go are individual freedoms. It happened in Iran, Afghanistan, Gaza and parts of Pakistan, and Egypt. They do not believe in the concept of individual freedom because they think they know what is best for every one else.
THIS is the example of a violation of individual freedom you want to cite? Never mind the fact that the people of Gaza are living in a virtual internment camp, in a state of siege?

and did you read the above article? is it only talking about hair cut? or is it talking about many other depressing actions taken by hamas such as:
***It has issued rules restricting women or requiring them to cover up in the traditional Islamic dress of long robes and headscarves, but relented if met by protests.
Last month, the Hamas government barred girls and women from participating in a U.N.-sponsored marathon, prompting a U.N. aid agency to cancel the race. Hamas activists have also exerted social pressure to get all school girls to wear Islamic dress.
In another incident, a Gaza teen, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, said he saw police beat three young men in downtown Gaza City for wearing tight, low-rise pants. The witness said the policemen beat the three with clubs on the backs of their knees and told passers-by watching the scene to move along.
***so why keep talking abt hair cuts only and deliberately ignoring many other actions taken by hamas which show a a certain behavioral/social pattern on behalf of hamas?
comprehension problem or intellectual dishonesty? please guide.
Sister pheonixdesi .... Why did the Washington post article feature the haircuts before featuring these three sections ....??? In my estimation these are more important than the hair cut fiasco ... I personally think they are just filling out their pages and meeting the quota of their agenda from their Zionist fund providers.
Re: Police in Hamas-ruled Gaza shave heads of youths with long or gel-styled hair
^ no one denies there are human rights violations happening. But that does not mean religion driven violations by Hamas should not be reported. Both can and should be reported. Akin to walking and chewing gum at the same time. Wrong is wrong. Period.
There is a predictable group of folks here who protest any time something negative is reported on groups or faith they are supportive of.
Peace Southie
Well I don't believe those reports ... I think they be lies ... Clear cut lies ... You know why? It's not because I think Hamas are angels ... It's because it doesn't make sense ... You just need to consult your heart and realise their is something fishy about this story that Shamraz is propagating.

Yes, they live in internment camp, but should violations of human rights, within the camp, by the people you admire be ignored in the name of a religion?

When you use the rhetoric of human rights violations, you must not be blind to the greater violations. If, and it's a big if, the intent of this article was to highlight human rights violations rather than paint Hamas as unpalatable to a Western audience (i.e. propaganda), then the article is remiss to remain silent on the greater violations or at the very least mention those abuses as well, if indeed human rights is such a concern.
Re: Police in Hamas-ruled Gaza shave heads of youths with long or gel-styled hair
I have no doubt article on such human rights violations are available. This article happened to be about how the conservatives are abusing their own people. Nothing more, nothing less.
Re: Police in Hamas-ruled Gaza shave heads of youths with long or gel-styled hair
this is state terrorism.....complete interference** in one's personal life and harassing them**
When you bring your act into public, it becomes state's problem to deal. If you roam around nude in your house, go ahead, when you go out nude in public that's social problem and state has to deal with it.
Re: Police in Hamas-ruled Gaza shave heads of youths with long or gel-styled hair
^^^ Really, walking around nude is same as walking around with hair gel? What kind of social problems exist b/c people use hair gel? And how is what Hamas is doing diff compare to when Taliban were measuring men beard's length? Where does person's freedom and individual existence start and state authority ends?
Re: Police in Hamas-ruled Gaza shave heads of youths with long or gel-styled hair
i promised myself after last isreal-hamas fight that i will keep a track of offenses committed by both sides and so far hamas is doing it for most part...
errr... you need to see who prefers the status quo. It is ISRAEL.
Israel would like Palestinians to remain "peaceful" regardless of the brutal suppression, occupation, and usurption it is causing among Palestinian people.
That cyclist in Israel is oh-so-worried about rockets being fired from "there". That place whose WHOLE POPULATION is under full embargo.
Such a cyclist who is oblivious to the plight of innocent people and wishes to enjoy his holidays in Israel, is definitely not an "impartial" person.

so you think if someone is walking around naked the punishment is "shaving heads"?
Re: Police in Hamas-ruled Gaza shave heads of youths with long or gel-styled hair
That may not be the ācore issue of the worldā. But such issues are important enough that extremists will lose support in Gaza. We witnesses this phenomenon in Iraq and Kashmir already.
Re: Police in Hamas-ruled Gaza shave heads of youths with long or gel-styled hair
I can tell what's wrong with Gaza. After the Israeli withdrawal and with the torrent of investments from all over the world, it could become a Switzerland of the Middle East. Instead, Hamas took over, and declared 1) a continuous war against Israel until Israel is destroyed or till the last Palestinian (whatever comes first), and 2) enforcement of the Sharia law (Hamas style) on all residents of Gaza. The rocket fire into Israel supported the declaration. Israel responded with a maritime blockade and the rest is history.
