Re: Poetic and Concise History of Punjab!

Leaving aside the Western, Central, Eastern, Outer, Lower bias of "The Punjab" and "Punjabi", no matter what people say, the Majhi accent was, and is still, considered to be the standard.

Re: Poetic and Concise History of Punjab!

The actual Punjabi of Lahore is in Majhi accent also called Majhi dialect.

Re: Poetic and Concise History of Punjab!

Lahore was and is still unique in the sense that 4 different accents of Punjabi can be found here.

True Majhi:

With proper sounds of each alphabet especially 'r' & 'R' e.g.

With only soft sound of 'r'. In this, 'R' is also pronounced as 'r' e.g.

'R' as 'r' like in "ghora" (horse)

Re: Poetic and Concise History of Punjab!

Hard Punjabi:

With only hard sound of 'R' where 'r' is also pronounced as 'R' e.g.

'r' as 'R' like in "kaRna" (to do)

'R' as 'R' like in "ghoRa" (horse)

Re: Poetic and Concise History of Punjab!

Upside Down Punjabi:

With sounds of 'r' & 'R' reversed e.g.

'r' as 'R' like in "kaRna" (to do)

'R' as 'r' like in "ghora" (horse)

Re: Poetic and Concise History of Punjab!

Good. I was regular here, but there weren't good topics here so never commented.

No, I didn't study Punjabi in school, I studied in Central Board due to frequent transfers of parents, so it was Hindi and English for me.
