ya i saw that … i figured it will be a while before it come to Canada. Also, not MUCH difference with mine anyway. WM5 is what attracts me, even that suppose to be transparent as well.
I like small slick practical phones though. Hence, not using it
Still prefer my nokia 6230! nofin beats that in practicallity
I'm not asking "intimate questions", but the idea of buying one, trying it out and then returning it is not so bad. Except that I'd have to pay a re-stocking fee. I don't know ANYONE who has these things though, so its hard for me to see them. In the stores, there are none on display. They're all sealed in packages in a case, so its impossible to test them out.
And for some reason, I don't think they're that popular, or at least I'm not seeing many sales on them in the sales flyers. I used to, but it seems no one cares for them now. They seem like darn good devices.
See, I don't know whether its better to invest in a small laptop (you know, like the really tiny ones that are so easy to transport), or get a tablet PC, or get this thing. I want something mobile, easy to carry, that I can do a lot of things with. I'm always needing to check my email at random times during the day, so it would be cool to have something that can pick up wireless signals and allow me onto the net. I need something light that I can transport intense files on and view them when I need to no matter where I am. I also want a portable mp3 player function tagged on so that I can use it like I'd use an iPod. I don't see the reason for me to spend 400 dollars on an ipod when I can spend the same money and get something like an HP iPaq that's got so many more features.
But the tablet PC seems pretty cool too, since I want something that I can easily store LOTS of information in, access it all easily, and make digital drawings on by hand. But then a tablet PC would be too cumbersome?
UMTS is Universal Mobile Telecommunications System, it is the 3G standard of GSM and uses W-CDMA as the underlying standard. UMTS provides high data rates (upto 2 Mbps) and is a direct competitor of Verizon’s (or Sprint’s) EVDO.
Currently in US, only Cingular is offering UMTS and that only in selected markets. Tmobile has plans to offer, but nothing right now. UMTS is more popular in Europe with some operators like 3 has UMTS only (no GSM).
If you use your cell phone only for making calls, you don’t need to worry about UMTS.
Now to the topic. As Faisal mentioned, you need to decide what you will be using your PPC for.
My first PPC was HP 6315. I bought it because it had everything, GSM+WiFi+Bluetooth+Infrared, I used for an year. It was OK but I found it really bulky so I got rid of it.
HP’s new model HP 6940 will have all of the above +EDGE+GPS+integrated keyborad, but again it will be bulky.
I’m interested in Treo 700w, but it is on Verizon’s network (that means it is a CDMA phone, not GSM). It doesn’t have WiFi, but I don’t feel the need of WiFi all the time, I can always use WiFi SDIO card. I’ve seen that size of the phone increases a lot if you have WiFi in there. There is Treo 650, which is GSM, but it uses Palm OS, which I don’t like. So I’m waiting for treo that runs Windows and is on GSM.
There is one small smartphone Dallab DX8 with GSM+EDGE+WiFi+BT, but its ugly, and is not available in US I guess.
imates are good, look at JAMin, only problem is that it has no integrated keyboard. JASJAR and K-JAM have everything I wish for, but again, both are bulky.
Motorola is also bringing their RAZR thin smartphone Motorola Q, it has sleek design with all the normal features (but on Verizon’s CDMA network), just need to wait for its GSM version.
