Correct - and its not that US respects any laws - as an eg, they strip searched Indian Defense Minister George Mathew Fernandes at Dullus airport twice when he was there on official visit with protocol Indian ambassador with its entourage was there to receive him. India had all the right to make noises which they did its another thing US did not gave a damn.
In case of Abbasi I see nothing out of the ordinary, its normal to go through the process.
