I am a college student, and I’ve just been given this assingment in my creative writing workshop.
I need to write about a relationship between two people (not necessarily romantic). One is supposed to be crazy, and the other one learns about it somehow. (I have chosen to write about two dormmates…I don’t know which gender yet) The crazy person is also supposed to have some sort of obsession with a thing which causes the craziness.
My problem is is that I have 24 hours to write this thing, and I am stuck trying to figure out an obsession…
thats easy... crazy friends.. girl and guy (that is always more sensational then same gender relationships :)). the crazy one is obssessive of clean kitchen or plates. The other one leaves dirty kitchenware in the basin.
so you have a conflict. make the two people from different nationalities and cultures and you have a typical desi-american movie :). Add overtures of a liberal and a conservative culture.

This is an interesting topic ...seems like schools are really focusing on creative writing skills these day...I don't see topics like 'My dog', 'My house' and 'How to make tea' being popular among students any more.
Anyway back to your question about obsession...it is a pretty strong word and I wouldn't be surprised if the crazy person in your essay is obssessed about checking his email every five minutes or log on for various other addictive reasons like stocks, news, chat, sports, weather..
crazy one = crazy boy
obsession = girls(not to think bad), which cause the craziness
the other one is a boy too but an ugly one, yaar(like me) who hates that crazy one!
the crazy one is very kaamyaab but becoming crazier by getting his obsession and the ugly one is very nakaam and getting more crazier coz he does not get anything but only hear stories form that crazy one!! so at the end both are crazy. and the girls are crazy-makers!
so this the story about nakaam and kaamyaab ashik, ooopss i meant crazy and not crazy boy!
Ahmm, interesting. I do remember doing a lot of those kinda topics for my papers in creative writing. Perhaps, you can write about how some people are obsessive about putting everything in alphabetical order. From coupons, to notes on the fridge even arranging their canned foods in order. And how this obsession of one's drives the other room mate up the wall. Some people really do that. And it's veryyy annoying.

These are all nice suggestions. Here is another one for you.
Write something about a Billi (cat) and a Chooha (mouse) who live in your house. Billie is crazy (mentally ill) but they both share an obsession: music. When the people of the house leave for their daily jobs, etc. Billi and Chooha fight over what CD to play. Billie is crazy about NFAK, while Chooha likes Santana. You can then discuss the merits of Indian Classical Music and how it can make someone obsessed with mental anguish to becomes so duped into the atmosphere that all the pagal-puna somehow takes the secondary place.
Even though the Chooha argues with Billie over playing Santana, but in his heart he wants to loose, so Billie can play NFAK so she can find some solitude and calmness. It is all one big drama put on by Chooha.
The moral is that friendship is crazy and comes in many forms. One must not view the world through one pair of eyes.
In the end, like always, Billie ends up marrying Chooha. And they live happily ever after.
I think the ending should be somewhat of the classic drama climax nature. This requires both billi and chooha to die while fighting with swords with NFAK's 'dil mar janay nooN ki hoa sajna, kadi vee nai aj jinna roa sajna'. (I think chooha should kill billi by the slashing sword first then die himself because somebody had put poison in his cheese; probably that was billi). Every other character should also somehow die (sword preferred). There should be a reasonable amount of blood left on the scene to make it a classic tragedy of obsession, desire, and Indian music.
I actually found one- bugs!..two dormmates- first week of school, they both move in and while they are unpacking one notices a cochroash and wants to get rid of it...but the crazy gurl tells her not to becuz the has a thing for them..and while she is explaining this she pulls out her pet tiranchilla thats in a cage but....
rest later- i've got a few other papers to type tonite- so i'll let u know how it goes if anyone is interested..oi vay- such suffrage at the last minute!
haha! Bugs, that'd be like me and Hayaa if we ever were to share a room. She'd be like "Kill the spider! kill the spider." and I'd be like, No, No, U can't, its harmless, lets pick it up and throw it outside. And we'd be fighting to beat each other at it!

I'll see if I can copy it on here. I just finished it yesterday, but it is really corny. I had page constraints too- and so its not really as finished of a piece as I would have liked it to be. (I'm so critical about any work I do...my teacher chose my last paper to dicuss in class!..turned out to be okay- becuz she did it anonymously, so no one knew I wrote it...and I got a lot of healthy comments as well as constructive criticism for it.)
Hmm..maybe I should do this every week, because my next assignment is about.... :p
