Re: Planning a little brunch
Hmmmm
Now I'm wondering if I should add sliders to the menu, working with RV's suggestion.
And should i move the mini-quiches to the main course?

Mini quiches are a classy appetizer. Don't move to the main course.
You don't have to do sliders. You know the kids of your guests well. If you think they will be fine with matar chawal....then don't add or change anything. I'm not that into chawal. I don't even eat pulao/khichri/chanay walay chawal, etc. I was like that as a kid too....so again I'm just speaking from my own experience. I just thought kids would gravitate more toward a hamburger...or an easy-to-make past dish like spaghetti/mac n cheese, etc. I don't know if hamburgers/sliders would become either time-consuming/messy to assemble/or more of a hassle in terms of ingredients.
And, yes, I think that the menu is sufficient to fulfill lunch cravings....because you have included items that contain fiber (fruit/smoothies, etc) and protein (meat/cheese dishes) that fill people up.
Re: Planning a little brunch
Well my little madam is a desi girl through and through (the other day I ate macncheese for lunch and she ate Persian rice and kebabs
). The rest of the kiddies have moms who are amazing chefs and so they constantly eat yummy desi khanna. The chawal is in case they’d prefer that with keema to the more western dishes. I could make chawal with aloo in it in case there are finicky kiddies like you, RV ![]()
Ammi approved the menu! Woohooooo! ![]()
(Also, i think I’m going to do the store-bought puris. It’s a lot of people and I don’t want Ammi worrying about it. I want her to be able to enjoy the brunch. It is Mothers Day afterall. :halo: )
Re: Planning a little brunch
Also, on the previous page I posted recipes for those of you who asked. Do let me know if you try them out!

Re: Planning a little brunch
Looks perfect Sahar! Do post pictures plz! Such a neat idea :-)
Re: Planning a little brunch
Sahar - I tried your flan recipe!!! I had put all the ingredients in the blender, gave it a few seconds. After that I caramelized the sugar & poured it into the pan and baked it for 2 hours in water. I made one big one, attached here, and one very small one in another dish. The big one was very good, but I could taste a slightly bit of eggy-ness at the bottom…i’m not sure if that was because I had left it in the blender for a while, and did not give a shake before pouring it into the pan?? The second small flan of the same batch - I cooled it and left it in fridge for a few hours before taking it out to serve, and that tasted great, had a much firmer texture…no eggy-ness. What do you think it could’ve been in the first one?

Sahar my mouth is watering....how do you make mini quiches? Please kindly post recipe. Also please do post some pics of brunch table with dishes. How will you serve the fruit smoothie? In a jug or in mini glasses?
Also pls post pics of vegetable skewers, chicken skewers, etc
Re: Planning a little brunch
Maybe it was that it didn’t mix. But the one time that mine came out eggy was when I cooked it at a higher temperature. Did you cook it at 300? Or maybe it’s the pan – did you use a metal pan? I usually use Pyrex. Maybe the metal gets hotter? Also, I usually make mine at least one day before.
Re: Planning a little brunch
:o You are absolutely right. I made the one in the pic in a metal pan (didn't have a glass one at hand), and the smaller one in a ceramic/ramekin. Both were baked at the same time at 300F. I never thought of that, thanks for the tip.

Glad we figured that out!! The pic is gorgeous, btw.
Re: Planning a little brunch
I’ve never made mini-quiches before – will try this recipe, maybe with a few tweaks: Easy Mini Quiche Recipe - Allrecipes.com
I’ll probably do the smoothie in small cups.

^ What is Half-and-half? - Yahoo! UK & Ireland Answers
I don’t know if it’s sold as its own product in the UK. Here it is commonly used in coffee and such.
