Pictures

At the time Islam was revealed there were no cameras to take pictures. So there is no concept of "picture u take". It was "picture you draw", meaning an artist will draw your picture.

'taking' & 'drawing' nice point you are trying to make.

Many hours are invested to draw a good resemblance of the person. Hence the ruling that if you draw the picture of a person you will be asked to make it come alive. Meaning its discouraged/prohibited.

Some country in Europe [cant remember]. Where the sketch makers sit by the road side you just go and sit there within 5-10 mins they make your sketch. I see no reason why people at that time could do it in such short peroid.
Seconldy, what makes you think this is the reson which led to prohibbition. Please reffer to it.

Fast forward to today. You take a picture from a camera (film camera, digital camera or video camera etc). You are not drawing the picture. You take a snapshot and the pixels are converted to a picture. Does the same ruling apply?

The above post might help.

Some scholars claim, yes. All pictures are prohibited.

Some others say, its permitted to take pictures using cameras, but not ok for a person to draw the picture of another person.

Some others say, its permitted only to take/use pictures if they are used for security or identification purposes (ID card, passport etc).

Read them all, and ask thou heart where you find the conviction?

I guess I'll step up and ask the most obvious question, is it forbidden to take/draw pictures in the Quran? Meaning, did God Almighty Himself see it fit to forbid?

As I have told earlier, I'm learning Quran so dont have a indepth grip on it so far.
But suppose if the Quran doesnt forbidds and a Hadith [authentic one] forbidds it then what?

It is clear from the Hadiths that.... "On the Day of Judgement the pictures of living things will be brought to life and they will beat up the person who created them".

(Source is a book... What Happens After Death? By Maullana Aashiq Illahi)

Its not my heart that needs conviction, actually, its for those who are undecided on the issue. And if anyone thinks that ALL pictures are haraam and therefore don't allow anyone to take their own pics or take pictures themselves, more power to you. I hope you don't ever have the need to drive cars or travel outside your country of birth or ever have to prove to someone that you are you. :-)

I think we should all read whole posts before positing our views ending with :-). By the end of the post which I have posted avove it reads "Photographs which are essential are permitted - such as those required for identity documents, or for identifying or pursuing criminals [e.g. "wanted" posters and the like - translator's note], or for educational purposes which cannot be achieved otherwise. The principle in sharee'ah is that we should not exaggerate about what is necessary*"*

You see the person who wrote this book he must have copied the hadith from some other source for instance Bukhari, Muslim etc. I think the brother wanted to seek that refference not form the book you mentioned becuase I personally have seen fabricated hadiths in some of the very famous books.

Well brothers, it's not my problem if you haven't memorised the Qur'an and the Hadiths (all famous six books) by heart.

Had you memeorised them, you wouldn't need to question me.

1 of all pictures r not allowed in any condition except taking pics for the passport purposes and some ver very necesary purposes....otherwise it is totally haram...and taking pics or making video of a death person s even worst...ALLAH will give punish to those who do tht..atleast these people should not pics of such things ..tht is a poor atitude

Brother, my point is the book you are reffering to might have a fabricated hadith. Why dont you confirm if that is true or not. As I said earlier I've seen extreemly famous books which have fabricated hadiths. If we dont memorize them all doesnt mean we start believing in every thing that we read or hear.

Well i'm not the publisher and nor I have the time to check the whole of books with Qur'an and Hadiths that they match.

If i'm wrong, may Allah have mercy on me.

Did the people used to go around questioning the Sahabas? Offcourse not, Muslims used to trust one another in them days.

Do you trust Muslims?

Sahabas were the best of muslims. Point one
As said earlier i have seen in many books fabricated hadiths so what shall I do believe them just cuz they were written by muslims?

Well brother, there's a solution. If you don't see any referrences from me or you don't trust me or my statesments from which source i've used, just please ignore my posts.

And you can carry on with your research. May God Help You.

Jaza-k-Allah for the prayers
