Re: PIA/Turkish combining forces!
PIA is inefficient, ineffective, its fleet is ageing/almost dead. Privatisation is a good thing as it will allow crucial investment in the airline which is badly needed.

i thought they use B-777's and other modern aircrafts. privatization will not necessarily bring about rejuvenation of the airline [we've seen in the case of Air Canada, it was privatized and 15 years later still asks Govt to bail it out from debt]. i think they've to improve the services both on the ground and in the air, better scheduling, less bureaucracy and better management.**
Re: PIA/Turkish combining forces!
You're right they are new but 9/40 aircraft are b777. Most are old and simply inefficient. I don't believe government control over businesses. I'm pro privatisation you could say because insufficiencies are reduced. However, I feel that important industry businesses should remain in national hands for example (Pakistanis should have majority stake in PIA).
Re: PIA/Turkish combining forces!
Would you continue to fly PIA/TK for the sake of PIA if this MoU gets official ink?
Re: PIA/Turkish combining forces!
YES, its to my advanges/benefit...i get a FREE stopover in Karchi on my way to Delhi and i don't need any visa plus they put me in a Hotel at the airlines expense. :) its a WIN-WIN situation for bothe th aitline and the passenger :) One happy customer is a repeat business. :)
Re: PIA/Turkish combining forces!
You wouldn't mind two stops, and a possible long wait till transit flight?

thats what my goal is to visit relatives in Karachi. i usually get day and a half in Karachi. thats the reason i take PIA :) whenever i take**
Re: PIA/Turkish combining forces!
PIA and Turkish Airline may be combining operations, but calling it "combining FORCES" sounds weird given PIA's losses in billions of rupees every month.
PIA has no force. It is a failed institution, similar to Railways and Steel Mill.

i agree but unlike Steel Mills Pakistan Railways and PIA will NOT cease to exist b/c they are national entities and a nation's necessities. They will survive with public money, like it or not! isn't it?**
Re: PIA/Turkish combining forces!
no matter whether they combine or not, the problem PIA have is that it has a poor service. simple as.
people prefer to go on something , more stress free such as emirates, even though it has stop over ( the changes of you being delayed by PIA is substantially higher anyway )
Re: PIA/Turkish combining forces!
There seems to be a constant tussle between PIA Employees and the memorandum of understanding. The Defense minister briefed the senate and assured the audience that "PIA will not give up its profitable routes to any foreign airlines. PIA is open to discussions and agreement but only when it's a win win situation."
So we'll see...

i think PIA can make a lot of money if it preserves its routes and increases service and improve on the ground service as well. there seems to eb too much politics involved and of course the corruption at the core is eating the airlines just as i ate up the Pakistan railways.**
