Photographers can fix the red eye problem but eyes with no lens or with lens that don't produce heavy colors looks much better in the raw pictures so the editor can adjust the colors later. Using the basic 5 colors eye lenses produce more shades and eye turn into what we call is red eye. If you use red, green, yellow, blue (dark), magenta and pink shades lenses, they will some times (depending on the situation, location and light) produce color reflections and in return you will get the red eye, green eye or yellow eye or pink eyes ......
As Aisha siad at night time when retina is wide open, it allows more light to cross , when the light crosses the temporary eye lenses colored layers, it helps retina to reflect (or bounce back like cat eyes) with different color combinations. Also red eye could happen without lenses so lenses are not to blame. Some girls eye shape is the cause of red eyes to happen randomly.
Light eye colored people (i.e. the retina circle is not that dark) have more red eye problem. Lebanese and Egyptian girls have red eye problems in their pictures, because their eyes are not as much darker as Asian girls, I am not saying all but lots of them.
