Re: PGCE - Post Graduation Cert in Secondry Education
Lo jee - now have you tried what you’re claiming to be a cinch??
Teaching in higher ed has its own unique sets of challenges… managing students coming out of high-school with different minsets, keeping yourself updated with the latest knowledge in your subject areas, managing your Teaching Assistants, “competing” with your colleagues for tenure, and while doing all this, remaining competitive in the market by ensuring a steady stream of quality research publications.
I don’t think its fair to judge anyone’s else’s work unless you have innate insight into that profession… like I said, we all have our own unique set of challenges.
Re: PGCE - Post Graduation Cert in Secondry Education
Umar, it was said in the spirit of a little joke grin
Having said that, yes i do think it is easier to teach kids in hi ed, for one thing the student wants to be there.
As for the rest of the list u cited we have to do all the that too
making bids for this and that,
keeping uptodate with latest research findings
contributing to latest research
at the same time as coping with kids who could swear at u, through chairs at u, whose parents then come in and do the same,
(And yes i was a lecturer, it didnt give the same buzz as teens)
MQ what u teaching and what difficulties do u face?
Re: PGCE - Post Graduation Cert in Secondry Education
I’d still say there are “unique” challenges to both professions – I couldn’t teach at the school level cuz I don’t have that kind of patience and I admit to it… but at the same time, school teachers may not have the in-depth subject knowledge and research abilities that are required for teaching at the University level.
Re: PGCE - Post Graduation Cert in Secondry Education
your forgetting difficult
i dont care what anybody says…teachers have it hard…especially primary school teachers:rolleyes: …just think, the future depends on how and what children are taught at the onset of their educational lives.
Re: PGCE - Post Graduation Cert in Secondry Education
Does anyone if the Universities ask to see evidence of qualifications for the PGCE?
I dont have any of my gcse certificates, and from what I have read, you need maths and english at gcse (which i do have), but i dont have the evidence.
would they then ask you to do an equivalence test? or would they take your word for it?
Re: PGCE - Post Graduation Cert in Secondry Education
yeh they do need evidence of all of your qualifications, but i had lost my college certificates so they took my word for it. i guess it depends on the university.
