i am just crying seeing all this,
they will have to pay for this shameless and senseless attack on lil angels…it shows their cowardice
they killed our children and they have no right of being so comfortable to live!

Yesterday I prayed that Allah may grant sabre to those that lost loved ones…
After waking up today and still being reduced to tears at the thought of what has happened, I ask Allah for sabre for all of us.

There is no loss more significant than that of just one precious child leaving this world…and here we have lost so, so many. Let’s make a pact to do something, each one of us. Let’s make sure that this loss is not for nothing.
Let this be the catalyst that brings change.

Pakistani English press asks govt to take tougher line on terror - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Following the Peshawar attack that left 145 dead, 132 of them school children on Tuesday, the Pakistani English press that represents the intellectual class of the country has unanimously asked the Nawaz Sharif government to take a more tenacious and belligerent line against Islamic extremism and terror groups.

In its editorials, the Pakistani English newspapers on Wednesday strongly castigated everyone from the Sharif government to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and the Pakistani civil society for the Peshawar terror attack. The Nation in its editorial wrote “the truth is this: Not just terrorists, but everyone, from the wider population to the civil and military leadership is responsible for the barbarity our children were subjected to.”

The English daily censured Prime Minister Sharif for contributing “absolutely nothing towards building a narrative against extremism” and for not taking “meaningful political ownership” of the military operation ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ against Taliban. The Nation also attacked the government scathingly for its refusal to “act against seminaries funded through Saudi money” and instead protecting “sectarian elements”.

In no fine print, the newspaper called Imran Khan “the most mainstream and consistent Taliban sympathiser in the country” who repeatedly justifies the murder of fellow countrymen and pushes “a toxic narrative based on factual inaccuracies and ignorance.” The Express Tribune, which partners with The International New York Times, without naming Imran Khan criticized him for proposing “peace talks” with Tehreek- e- Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and for refusing to name “the Taliban for what they were”. The newspaper referred to him as the one who “havered and equivocated, who offered mealy-mouthed justifications for appalling acts of terror.”

Of all the English dailies, The Nation was the only one to come down heavily on the Pakistani Army for refusing "to employ a blanket policy against non-state actors and continuing “to protect sectarian elements in Quetta, the Afghan Taliban and other ‘jihadi’ organisations such as Jamat-ud-Dawa.” The editorial confronted Pakistani civil society on “seeking comfort in conspiracy theories” and not uniting “against extremism unequivocally and without provisos”.

Known for its liberal views, Daily Times in its editorial said, “there is no way the country and its leadership can let this one go; there is no way a solid, chapter-turning decision cannot be made after what is, no doubt, a national tragedy.” “The government and military must understand once and for all that we are at war,” DT said adding that the country needed “a long-term response”, “a final end to this terror” and “a fitting response to the blackest day we have ever lived through.”

The largest English newspaper, The News asked Pakistani society “to pause and reflect on what we have become.” It asked for “political will and political action” “to tackle the root causes that lead to such acts of terrorism.” “Nothing matters more than ending militancy and the brutality it has brought to our society,” the editorial said.

Pakistan’s oldest English daily Dawn wrote that the state needed to go “beyond announcing so-called shaheed packages and promising to disburse cheques”. The daily wrote that it was for “the wider society and the media to ensure that this time the state does more than the bare minimum.” The editorial said that “military operations in Fata and counterterrorism operations in the cities will amount to little more than fire-fighting unless there’s an attempt to attack the ideological roots of militancy and societal reach of militants.”

The Express Tribune however expressed scepticism about Pakistan’s resolve to fight terror. “The national mindset,” it wrote, “remains unaltered, the paradigm impervious to reality and backwards-looking in so many ways”. “Past experience suggests that the massacre in Peshawar will go exactly the same way, quickly shuffled down the national agenda as addressing the root causes of the problem requires some hard questions being asked and answered — honestly answered. Possible? Little more than a definite maybe, we opine.”

Looks like they divvied up the blame between civic, political, administrative and military leaders. We do need to take a hardline against these animals. Clearly the policy of appeasement does not work. I do hope The Express Tribune is wrong. If the current paradigm remains impervious to this new reality, then there is something seriously wrong with us as a nation.
