i posted some here long time back as NIQABI…

hahahha about the Uncle from India, khajoor, and all your other ones... thanks for the laugh. :D Those were great.

Your "Muslim fundo" story reminded me of one flight from London to Toronto (again all alone:( ... ), and an older gora man was sitting next to me. i had brought the Quran, and a few nonfiction books to read with me on the flight. He was reading something too, TOTALLY absorbed in his book. Khair so i opened the Quran and started reading it. i could see him start to look out of the corner of his eyes, i knew he wanted to say something but he didn't know how to begin :D Eventually, he made some phony excuse to start talking...lol i think he was scared of me. We talked about the usual stuff - what was going on in the world, mostly Afghanistan, and spiritual stuff for example why religion can give you peace. He was a nice guy, soft spoken.

When the plane had landed, i couldn't get my bag off the stow-away compartment because it was really really heavy - mainay dunya ki cheezain thoosi theen uss main. He immediately helped me bring the bag down. And we left with smiles.

Travelling can really bring out the best (and worst) in people.

bery true :)

Im lucky, I always get to sit with engineers! Only last time I got a seat next to a doctor, it was pretty boring.

There is no doubt that traveling can bring out the best or the worst in people. Once when I was young, I went to another country just for the reason that on my way back I will sit next to her on the plane. Give her the surprise of the lifetime and to tell her .….

But once in the aircraft there was this man who was sitting in the middle, as soon as he saw us looking at each other, he refused to change his seat. At one time we both begged him but he didn’t budge. She offered him the window seat, as if that would lure him to change but no use. Ultimately after the aircraft got stable we requested the steward and he offered that person another seat but even then he refused, saying that he has no reason to change his seat. That was very frustrating, I never figured out what was wrong with that man, but for one hour or so he was quiet a pain. The steward understood the situation and offered us two seats in first class instead. That was like a bonus, for being polite to that man.

Anyway, those 6 hours did bring the best for us, we are still together after 23 years.

I once had to sit next to a sikh dude, who kept pointing towards his umm.... for help with his seatbelt. I just told him how to buckle it, and once the plane took off, i changed my seat...

I’ve had different experiences, but most of the times, people I sat next to were alright.

Here is a little story I posted a while ago, that would fit in this thread as well.

Since our daughter Safia was born (now 2 years old). I've flown from our home in NYC to Detroit or Buffalo to visit grandparents every/every other month. So I've had a lot of flights. It was especially uncomfortable since I nursed her and she refused to take bottle. Anyways I was always lucky to be seated next to another woman/mom. The one time i sat next to two men they were gay-quite obviously. So they didn't even notice me sitting there.

One time I flew from NYC to Buffalo on Jet Blue (best airline) and I sat next to this Indian guy. We talked the whole way about his kids and wife. Also we talked about Toronto and his parents Gerrard St. store that they just closed after 30 or so years. It turns out my dad knows his dad and that was interesting.

A quick rendition of a paindoo who got on at Frankfurt (on my flight from Washington-Karachi)
The stewardess came around asking what we'd like to drink:
Stewardess: Sir, would you like anything to drink?
TofiBaba: Yes, a double vodka tonic without ice, please.
Stewardess: Sure. Sir (addressing the paindoo) would you like something to drink?
Paindoo: Can I have scotch on the rocks WITH ice

Err, I would have thought your nursing her would have made travelling so much EASIER, no bottle or artificial milk to cart around, heat up / cool down, etc. ... So what made it "especially uncomfortable"?

OMG

no-ones had a terrible experience as I have

it was AWFUL!

we were going from Karachi to Islamabad, i dontknow what the hell happened to the tickets everything got messed up and the next thing we knew we were on this really wierd plane

anyway it got worse, the man sitting behind me kept snorting and coughing up phlegm every 6 seconds!!! I was counting :frowning: i couldnt help it, it was so gross!!! and he had like…flies as well :crying:

and all the whilei was telling myself, Xara…calm down…God is testing you… and then he’d snort something up into the sick bag again oh GROSSS!!!

after that i couldnt take it anymore… i remember almost bursting out crying and ended up having to swap seats with someone

the next person sitting next to me was this old lady who kept grunting and chewing the end of her dupatta, anyhow i was grateful for the change sigh god help me in future and save me from these ppl Ameen.

...

and yes people my computers screwed...again

hahahah, this reminds me of my flight from Bahrain to Karachi. All I could hear for 2 hours straight was continuous snorting and spitting out phlegm. Absolutely disgusting. That combined with the staring … yuck

omg

so it happens to others??? you know the ugly smelly man (he smelt soo soo bad and can u imagine he was sitting behind me??) he kept on staring thru the window btwn the seats at me

pukes god i never felt so sick in my life, and i didnt even have any lunch that day!!!

I took Gulf Air this past summer from London to Lahore. There was one stop in Abu Dhabi (which by the way is the crustiest airport with all the "working class people" sitting on the floors).

There was this fat man sitting behind me. He was like HUGE. He kept on hitting his legs on my seat during the 7 hour flight. And then when he finally fell asleep he was snoring so loudly. He started swearing at me when I tried to put my seat back! My husband tried to explain to him that I was pregnant, but he ignored us! There was a fatter guy sitting behind him. We complained to the air hostess who was British and you could tell by the way she was looking at the guys, that she was fed up with these type of people. Unfortunately, the entire plane was booked solid, so she couldn't put us in different seats.

Once, when I was travelling alone, this old auntie type lady started talking to me at the airport. I think she thought I was going to be her buddy from Lahore to London. I didn't mind talking, but when she started asking me how old I was and what my parents do and which part of the city I lived in, it became to creepy. So I ran away.

Thankfully, this time I am travelling through Saudi Airlines, I have heard it is better...

hahaha, my experience was on Gulf Air too! I too complained to the air hostess and asked if the men were hassling her (cause they were staring in between snorting). She was european, blonde, very pretty. She just stood in the aisle with her arms crossed looking very uncomfortable. So when I asked her if they were bothering her, she said, "not yet. Are they bothering you?" and we kind of consoled one another.

I only get to sit next to people who go: "Beta, yeh faaram to bhar dena meray liyeh"

:hehe: this sounds familiar :clown:
