I think it is correct to assume that peoples feelings can be hurt, even over the internet. If people can read posts and change their mind/views about things/life, then why cant people be affected by others opinions, or be moved to tears over what a person says? Everyone is different, and therefore one should not expect that everyone is going to be like them. If you truly do care for someone's feelings, you will not only consider your own when advising others. It is a different thing altogether if you felt you were being nice and someone took it the wrong way. Then I think you should simply explain what you meant and apologize.
I feel that being harsh with others and making fun of them in a public forum is more a sign that the person stating such things needs more advice/counsel than he/she is giving to another. But thats just my personal opinion.
I believe it is an obligation for muslims to be kind and sincere in advice. One simply has to look at the Prophet(SAW) and how he instructed and advised others. It was never with such statements of "get a life", as far as I know (which isnt much unfortunately, but anyway). He was extremely polite in his mannerisms, and considering that he was an example for us, I believe we should atleast try to follow some of his example, whatever we can.
Perhaps many will disagree, but this is my view.

Because i talk to them, because i see how a lot of them get hurt by comments on the board . This may be the internet but its real people posting on these boards and as such their words do hurt others.
ok That makes me sound like im a councelor or something.
Fact is the younger generation on these boards is very impressionable, guys or girls can really take to heart whats said here. If you make one bad comment about someones looks it can scar them for a long time (ive been there..i know).
Most people start of like that, fragile in their feelings and slowly toughen up, however they can and do get affected by others words when they are naive.
You mentioned why should you come here if you cant post what you want, i respond by saying post what you want but with discretion and with some care for others too.
