I think it's sort of too bad that Poindexter is quitting. The Futures Market may have been a kookie or bad idea but it certainly represents original and creative thinking. The thing about original and creative thoughts is that they are not always practical or necessarily good. But we need to create an environment where such thought is encouraged and where you don't need to be fearful if your thinking takes you down a path that needs to be avoided. You might need to close off 9 areas of possibile action before coming up with one brilliant course. As long as the appropriate checks and balances are in place so that the thinker-upper is not also the one with final say on implementing, I say leave the thinker-upper alone and let him think.
