He should only play test cricket. Selectors need to sit him down and tell him, they want him to be a regular in the test side - subject to form and fitness - for at least the next 2 years.
He, on the other hand, would also need to do his part - which is to perform and not moan about not being part of the T-20 or ODI teams.
He, and Younis Khan, need to be handled like Dravid and Laxman. Only test cricket, nothing more.

Sky news rarely make sports headlines of country cricket but they made Yousuf's ton's one. In difficult conditions, it does seem to be a masterclass. In younis' absence, he should be brought back.

mushkil heay.....chacha jee buhat time lagatay heain udas fakhtaon ko manay main....
ideally since younis is not playing due to his brothers death, Yousuf should come back in...but is he still under a central contract?
