i said what i said because i see your signature and wonder why you say “PEACE” instead of to Muslims? i can understand if you say this to non-Muslims. we, in India, say aadaab to non-Muslims…anyways, take care…Allah Haafiz.

Salam brother KKF … Well may be you view me with too high a criteria that is far greater than my capabilities … My signature is a reminder to me … Not a confession of my ability or state.

I have two points …

1. Is sayng Peace to someone not just the same as a translation of Salam?
   Where in the case Maswak is considered Sunnah … Is not brushing teeth with a brush not worthy of reward? I have always maintained the Sunnah of Miswak is two … The means and the intent … The stick itself plus the act of brushing … So saying Peace can fulfil the intent of the greeting of Salam, but does not reach the exact Maqam of Salam itself … Adaab comes from adab which means respect or welcome … I don’t think this is even wrong to say to a Muslim.

2. If someone comes with a greeting then Muslims are obliged to come with what is better … Seldom do Muslims better my Peace that I give to them … The escape clause they have is that my greetings were not appropriate for them as I am Muslim … And that is okay … I don’t mind if people do not respond to my Peace gesture …

My saying Peace is hopefully not forbidden … But if you prefer me to say Salam to you then I shall try to remember that … May Allah (SWT) give me Tawfiq to meet and exceed the expectations others have of me.
