Parsis in Pakistan

Re: Parsis in Pakistan

Indeed Karachi was a majority parsi city till 1947 and was well run by them. As a community they are the most honest people here in Karachi. Some years back there was an article on them in Dawn regarding their becoming extinct here in Karachi due to low birth rate and immigration to the west.

Re: Parsis in Pakistan

They are generally a good people and productive citizens.

Re: Parsis in Pakistan

They are just like other citizens in Pakistan. And yes, they’re received fine by majority. Overall, they’re highly educated :k:

My English teacher in school was Parsi - very very strict but a competent one. My Chemistry teacher was parsi too and she was so lenient.
My school fellows respected them just like we respected our other teachers.

Re: Parsis in Pakistan

Another influential Parsi in Pakistan is Mr Poonigarrh. He was a member of Federal Public Service commission of Pakistan.
The word "PARSI" is actually from "FARSI" which means Persian (Irani). Parsis are actually from ancient Iran. When Islam came to Iran in 7th century, quite a few Iranis (Farsis) did not convert to Islam, In 8th and 9th centuries, the muslim rulers of Iran were not very tolerant towards them. So they migrated to India. In India they came to be known as Parsis. Present day Parsis in Pakistan are their descendants

Re: Parsis in Pakistan

Karachi is what Paris made it to be , Pre Partition Karachi was a cosmopolitan city , the three dominant communties were Parsis , Hindus and then Muslims , beside there were Jews, Anglo Indian , British Chinese , Iranis , Malbaris, Gujratis , Kathiawaris , Memons, Punjabis, Sikhs, Sindhis, Balochs , Makranis , and even some Australians and Arabs as well .

Paris are the pioneers of Karachi , there influx into Karachi increased after British takeover ,

Incidently Jehangir Kothari 's Parade at Clifton was/ is the symbol of Karachi , and rumors has it , Jehangir kothari was at a time banned from buying any new land in Karachi …!! but thats another story .

Unfortunatley after 47 , the incoming zealots were not kind , and slowly but surely not only Parsis but other non muslims were made to leave , the process accelerated especially post Zia ERA … Period.
