panjara in pregnancy?

Re: panjara in pregnancy?

I have also heard of panjeeri bringing on pre-term and if it is eaten in the first trimester even having a miscarriage.
The reason to eat after delivery is for energy and it's taseer is "garam" to make sure you get rid of all the impure blood which has been in your system for the past 9 months in the form of a 40 day long period.

Mahru- what impure blood?

Re: panjara in pregnancy?

^^ The bleeding you have after delivering a baby. It is the uterine lining that has not been shed for the last 9 months coz mostly women don't get a period during pregnancy.

amelie…i agree that its a highly nutritious diet but its best to eat after the birth n not before. I’ve heard (n experienced) that too much of nuts are blamed for pre term labour. I can’t say how authentic it is but my experience somewhat proves it right.

Afia, I work in Pubic health and worked with Pre-natal carenurses, mds, OB and neonatologist, Nuts have no relationship to pre-term labor…as I said they have good nutrients…Further. in my family pregnant women drink nuts soaked in milk every am.

the rest of the panjeeri mixture…don’t know enough about what is in it to say yes or no…usually these old wives tales have some basis on fact/experience,…it’s interesting to explore what could happen. I wonder if high levels of gestational diabetes occurred in certain desi families and the panjeeri just added/increased this…thus those families avoide panjeeri…hmmm

BUT in general research shows many “correlations” with what is know to help babies develop (i.e. DHA in eggs, some fish and almonds/nuts) some that are unknown(artificial sweetners in diet coke, etc) and others that are negative…generally anything artificial/chemical or potential to be (i.e. fish in certain seas have high mercury) should be avoided…
