Who would you rather have, Shahid Afridi, most popular, very aggressive, and a proven captain for Karachi, or Asif, who has little experience in leading any side, and a proven steroid user?
Let's not go for the proven steroid user lets go for the proven cheater who would wear spikes and spin on the pitch to get some help out of it. Ofcourse talent and consistency doesnt matter either. Let's pick the one who can barley hold his place in the side in any other format of the game over the guy who has been the best bowler by a stretch. Someone who many call the best new fast bowler in International cricket.
I dont think so that Asif should be brought into limelight only because WADA is after him and Akther, let that fly get off the shoulder and then you can make him VC. for now just let him concentrate on his bowling. no matter how much he says he is not worried about WADA its not true. Umer Gul and Razzaq are only two contenders who can justify their places in ODI's and Test, (Lets hope they keep their fitness 100%).

If our choices are limited to Asif and Afridi then we should really be concerned. Vice captaincy of the team is not such a big deal, in my view. Except for the token grooming of future captain (which obviously failed abysmally with Younis Khan), the position holds as much prestige as any other senior player. So I don't think a big fuss over it is warranted.
how come we never hear Multan based Inzi, Sialkot based Malik or Lahore based Wasim Akram, but Only Karachi Based Afridi???
When Afridi is on the roll and doing good, people make a point to mention his pathan background but when it comes to giving him responsibility, all of sudden being from Karachi becomes a curse for him ! how sad? stupid sh*t like this why parties like MQM become popular in Karachi!
I think Afridi is the best choice for Vice captain because he has "sher ka jigra" which is must have quality for a leader, but stupid pcb and pakistani awam think u must be a good batsman or a bowler to be a good captain, (nothing learned from defensive, passive leadership of Inzi) . If you can find captains like Wasim Akram and Imran Khan who were not only good players but good leaders, then you are in luck but you can not always have imran and wasim.
Afridi is a decent bowler, good fielder and a great one day batsman. I am sure if he is given a responsibility he will deliver more consistently as a batsman.
Most of all he is agressive, never under pressure or fear anyone and has big heart. only thing I would question if he gets along with Malik or not.

Afridi doesnt hold a permanent place in the side because he is not consistent. Asking for anyone more consistent then him shows lack of knowledge perhaps. Razzaq is an all rounder and a hell of a lot more consistent then Afridi. Ofcourse Shoaib Malik was the other all rounder and has also been more consistent them Afridi. Other then that the name of Asif has been mentioned who has consistently been our best bowler in almost every series has has played.
No one is holding anything agaisnt Afridi because he is Karachi based. It's thinking like this that creates problems all over. Why cant one admit the shortcomings of Afridi as a player without accusing anyone of being biased. Younis Khan was the front runner for the captaincy before Malik took over. He is pathan and he is Karachi based as well, no one said he wasnt qualified, cause Younis actually was performing with a lot more consistency that Afridi has ever show in his long career. You called Afridi a** great** one day batsman. Well then your defination of "great" must be different from others. The guy averages in 20's with well more then 200 games. Sachin Tendulkar is a great ODI batsman, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Kevin Pieterson, etc. These are great players. Afridi is not even a good ODI batsman let alone be termed great. Although I agree he is a very effective ODI bowler who I believe has been under utilized in the past.
Asif is too young and inexperienced .Moreover he is the best bowler in the Pak side who is performing consistently.Let him do his duty as the main bowler peacefully .better make some one like Salman Butt as VC.

I agree with Bada Larka to the extent that we need an aggressive and brave player as captain or vice captain. A captain does not have to be the best batsman or bowler in the team but he must atleast be an automatic selection which Afridi is not at present in tests. Even in ODIs I won't necessarily play him in every game. The only way a captain or vice-captain can command the respect of his players is by leading from example. You can't have a non-/inconsistent performer as captain or vice-captain
As for ODIs lets be clear on one thing. Afridi is NOT a great one-day player. For a start his batting average of just 23 is pathetic and he is at best a hit and miss player who usu. comes good on flat pitches when there are already enough runs on the board. Gilchrist and Jayasuriya are both aggressive and consistent batsmen and can be called great one-day players. The term 'great' is used very loosely these days and should be reserved for truly world-class players like Viv Richards, Imran Khan, Shane Warne, Miandad, Ponting, Lara, Tendu, Wasim, Gilchrist, Jayasuriya and several others.

well steriod case was more of a joke…i dont know y ppl r making it an issue
considering shaid afridi is not a good idea cuz he plays from heart not from brain. he himself confesses (in ary program champions) dat he do made strategies, but when he enters the ground he molded according to environment (which is most of the times way off track).
so a person lack consistency, already a part of so many misbehaving charges. only have one (dominating) plus point dat is hez attacking, can be a part of a team but still need lot more grooming in terms of leadership. hez great allrounder but plays for himself (as above stated, he extracts a lot from the setting around him, rather than set the world in his way (quality of a good leader)
some one mentioned razzaq…dat guy sleeps a lot. n hez one of the worse fielders of Pk , which means on the ground if hez not holding anythign (bat or ball) he will prefers to sleep
i don wana comment on gul…whereas asif is also looks sleepy on the first glance. but when it comes to his bowling..wow man he got a class. his work shows persistence and calmness as his charachter trait. so inshaALLAH his game strategy wont be blind and more thorough thought process involved (requirment of a leader).
but the fact is, i will support any of the player, cuz leading is a big task, and perhaps full of challanges, dat also requires personal contibution and bringing team together as one. (i believe younus khan had acknowledged dat)

Well the PCB already said that VC will be rotated. I think in principle its the best approach however, the frequency that they highlighted seems to high. It should be for 1 year atleast. No series by series BS.
