Pakistan’s is worlds 4th largest producer of cotton and this year we are expecting a 13% in the yield. The reasons mentioned were poor quality of support servives offered by the govt, adulteration of pesticides and fertilizers. Farmers often complain that govt. only pays lip service to their concerns. Worlwide cotton prices are expected to be higher by about 50%.
Due to this shortage Pakistan is expected to import some 1.5 million bales of cotton to meet the domestic textile demands. The textile manufucturers complain that even though they have modernized yet the Pak’s cotton output has stayed virtually same over the years. They complain that there is virtually no effort to improve the agricultural are by the govt.
