Pakistanis and Travel

I think i hit the wrong cord somewhere :D

When I joined this forum I was told to ignore posts such as your last one.

Romeo, he thinks it was a cord. Now, that’s an insult.

Well, size still matters.

I come from a poor memon family (oxymoron)

Hehe, no seriously, I've travelled, but our problem is time. We honestly dont have time, and my parents are workaholics. They dont know what a vacation is.

But still, we've managed to do the Caribbean, Niagra Falls, Orlando, um...yeah that's basically it beyond Karachi, Pakistan.

I try so hard to get them to travel, but you dont understand how complicated my parents are!

hmm well i disagree. depends where these pakistanis are from

my family for example travel every two years to some place far...some of our destinations include:

FRANCE
SWEDEN
SWITZERLAND
USA(OHIO, LA, NY, FLR, CALIFORNIA)
UK
UAE
PAKISTAN
CANADA (QUEBEC, ALBERTA)

HAHA. Desi hotspot alert!

I think one thing people should do is promote internal tourism within Pakistan. Not the typical places but a bit of the beaten path. Besides that as soon as I'm able(translation cash!) I'd love to travel more, my Uncle..God bless his soul used to travel all the time and knew 7 langauges, besides Pashto, Urdu, English and a bit of Persian, he could manage Hindko and do ok in Punjabi as well as Bengali, Philipino(sp?) and some Arabic..he used to have suitcase with stamps of all the places he'd been too, and believe me when I say there wasnt much space left for new stamps the last time he travelled..which was to the Maldives.

yeah ok - desi hot spot alerter. Thanks for the info.

Hmm....there was supposed to be a post here from hubby.....kahan ga'ee?

funguy

if you are talking about pakistanis in pakistan, I can kinda see that. I gues sissues for most involve costs, visas etc. Other challenge is that when ppl have 2-4 weeks of vacation per year and have parents and family in Pakistan, they want to spend time there. A good pal of mine tries to stop by some other country on the way there and way back for a day or 2 just to get a change of scenery, I am sure if his parents were here, he would be spending his vacations travelling to other places.

As far as expats or first gen brit or yank aks go, I dont know of anyone who has not been travelling. I myself have travelled all over the place. even as a kid I remember family vacations in Gemrany, Egypt, France and even Lebanon. That trend continued for me..my brothers and I consider ourselves to be modern day gypsies.

2 of my cousisn just went explorign historical sites in Jordan, Syria etc, some time ago same guys were in Brazil and a bit bfore that in Turkey etc. another one was in the caribbean with her husband.

My brother, who posts here as blackzero, has been to the most obscure places in Europe and has his backpack ready any long weekend he gets.

great topic.. I love awara gardi.. I have mostly travelled in far-east, Canada and USA but would love to go more places.. whenever I ma in anre place the first thing I visit is museums, art galleries and religious places.. I travel alone and go for small places and villages than big cities.. one in Malaysia I met a malaysian who was almost shocked to death when he found out that I was from Pakistan and was an actual tourist!

so far i have not travelled much like you all did or mentioned..but i surely do have a travelling germ in myself..or should i say exploring germ..i might not be able to travel..but i certainly do love reading and talking about it..i enjoy doing virtual tours from time to time..

everytime i travel..i take pics..i write travel diary for myself if i note something neat..

sometimes what i do is kay i just step out of my place and start walking..i love observering what the nature has to offer around me..i might pass a smile or a hello to a pedestrian around me..i might sit on a bench in a park and smell flowers..

anything and everything is interesting..be it humans, plants, animals or architecture..everything teaches you something :)

Traveling through the whole of Pakistan is one of my goals in life. There is so much to see, feel, and experience…so many similar but unique cultures and traditions all fused under the wonderful umbrella of this beautiful, exotic land called Pakistan.

:flower2:

Excellent idea Moona... I have travelled extensively thru NWFP and Punjab. I wana do Sindh and Kashmir soon. Do you know of any group travels in Pakistan?. Very soon, I plan on taking three months hiatus from my daily routines and head out to Turkey, Iran and Pakistan. I wouldn't mind doing this as a group (at least 4 -5 people).

Funguy, no sorry, don’t know of any group travel deals for Pakistan. Your idea sounds great though. :k:

funguy, how about contacting PTDC for your plan..coz what i have noticed myself is that websites that offers tours are very expensive..so i would recommend something local..like PTDC or PIA..you can get a lot more info from them :)

Thanks Qrius. I contacted PTDC on my last trip and they have some hotels / Guest Houses in remote areas that are very helpfull. It was hard to get in some places. Well, Pakistan I can pretty much handle on my own without any guidance. I just need to read up more on Turkey and Iran.

I have TWO other people who are interested in doing this with me. But due to political/diplomatic situations, they won't be able to pass thru Iran. This is really a masla because WE wana do Istanbul to Quetta by bus.

Still in planning phase...

funguy, good luck :) sounds like fun to me..and do stock up all the books from the library nearby..i find travel books specially from lonelyplanet very interesting at times :)

keep us inform about the developments..theek!

By the way, read Ibn Battuta, and try to have an open mind. No, he was not Pakistani.

Ahmadi, your wit may be good but your history is down right poor. FYI my former class fellow Muhammad son of Mr. Buta was and still is a Pakistani and all that he has ever written is a ditto copy of what I wrote. Too bad he dropped out before completing his matriculation a secondary school certificate that has got nothing to do with beating meat). I may be humble, and even if I was not, I would not consider my writings mind opening.

Who told u that Pakistanis dont travel? You definately haven't met our group of friends. Or a crazy person like me who loves to drive accross the borders & takes a flight from London to NYC Saturday morning just to go to a Night club on Saturday night in New York & back at work in London on Monday morning.

No I dont visit Pakistan, I lived there for couple of years - actually nearly four years so I have already exlpored Pakistan well. The only continents left are South America & Australia.

But you are right - 90% Pakistanis only travel in a ring of 250 miles max, around where they live or take a flight to Pakistan thats it.
