Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

^ Mammogram every year is very important, but i think the age i’ve heard recommended is much younger…the doctor was telling my Mum in the 30s i think…get checkups (like physicals) every year starting when ur in ur 20s…cos thesedays, the age of ppl getting sick with diseases is getting younger and younger…thanks for ur input

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

I just bought some wristbands to support research from a local supermarket (Target)…Please visit The Breast Cancer Site: www.thebreastcancersite.com
Everyday when u click there, u will be able to help fund free mammograms for women…During October, every click is tripled…only 3 days left!

Thanks:blush:

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

My Mom has breast Cancer .... it's really hard to see some one so desperate for Life
i love her a lot

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

i’ll pray for her
my mom died of breast cancer at age 40…i was a kid, so i learnt quite a lot about it til now
as Amelie said breastfeeding is mandatory to reduce your risk of breast cancer
i have to add:
-abortion is the worst to do to your own breast
-having children late in life (ie more than 10 years after first periods) is bad for breats too
and beware of mamogramms made with rays, they can’t be read before menopause because breast is too dense but successive irradiation can damage breasts and cause cancer…

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

^ Really??? Do u hav studies to bak up that claim (having children 10 yrs after ur first period)? i’m sure not all of us r not ready to have kids at the age of 20 :halo:

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

i was watching this live show for shaukat khanum hospital, n this guy said according to the hospital censes , breast cancer is the most common form among woman in Pakistan and awarness is the least especially in rural areas.

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

i googled it once…can’t remember where i saw it, but the guy explained that woman breast are not really grown up untill the first pregnancy so the longer you wait from the first period to the first pregnancy the longer you breast are overly exposed to oestrogen which is the carcinogenic hormon for sexual organs in women…so as was said earlier having early menarch, and 10years old is very very young to get period is a fator of high risk for breast cancer cause you tend to wait longer to get kid than women who get periods at 16 (normal age).
now sara why do you think western women have more breast cancers?..cause they study longer so wait longer to have kids:(

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

It’s most common in white women. But I do know Pakistani women who’ve died of it. It sounds strange but be glad your mom is going in to the doctor for a lump. If it’s anything, it’s caught early and that can allow her treatment early. The problem is when women let it go to far because of embarassment or denial.

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

Parris, noone has thier period at 16, not even in pak, if it takes that long thensomething’s wrong. Over here, the age for first period is getting younger and younger :frowning: And yes some ppl hav had their first period at the age of 10, :bummer:

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

Parissenoor I'm sure there's alot of different theories. But don't trust research, it's often biased.

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

menstruation at early age and first pregnancy at an older age is a risk factor for breast cancer. The same is generally true for ovarian and endometrial cancer.

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

I wouldn't assume it's "more" common in whites...

ex. In marin county there was a sudden increase in white females with breast cancer, there was a concern that perhaps it was the area that was the cause....

Marin county is a highly educated, affluent area of San Francisco bay area, where many women wait to have children and do not breasfeed.

later research discovered that if you're older when you have your first child and do not breast feed for 2 years etc...your risk increasese...funny isn't it?

So yes research can make the wrong assumption BUT most disease studies are done after someone is diagnosed few follow the people who do/live the exact same lives and do NOT get the disease.....and see who/why that does not occur.

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

May Allah give her good health and give her and ur family strength, Ameen.

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

Sorry about ur Mum, may she rest in peace, Ameen :flower1:

Btw, i thought the normal age was around 12 yrs. old for the first period…and i also don’t think that having ur first child in ur 20s is considered late in life.

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

Yea, i’m glad that at least we have found wotever it is, early…and ur rite, the worst is when women ignore or don’t do anything about the symptoms, bcos they’re embarrassed or in denial.

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

Actually, my cousin was 16 when she had her first period…but yes, the age for girls is getting younger n younger today…and ur not the only one, i was about 9 or 10 when i had mine the first time.

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

Despite hundreds of posts in World and elsewhere on how Pakistanis and Indians are different, surprise surprise. Both Pakistani and Indian women (from sub-continent) who immigrate to Us or Canada end up having 3 times the chance of having breast cancer as the local gora population. In case of men and prostate cancer the chance is 5 times higher. Heart attcka shows a similar rise. Wonder why.

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

one of my friends used to say that docs who treat breast cancer had the best job since they spend all of their time squeezing melons to check for cancer...

well he changed his mind very quickly when i reminded him that most women get the cancer or get regularly checked for it when they are like 50+...and ud wanna stay away at all cost..

Re: Pakistani Women and Breast Cancer

 That is a horrible thing to say.
