Pakistani TV Channels

I dont think you'll like TV much if all the channels were like PBS. I'm sure that as time passes, you will see some speciality channels appear and some of them will be educational. but the main problem is that educational channels need something to telecast all day. To make documentries, which are an essential part of educational channels like PBS, you need good funding and things of that sort which is pretty hard to get in pakistan.

Where there is a will there is a way. If there could be money for expensive trips abroad by the PMs, ministers, etc, + all the wasteful non-developmental expenditure, there surely can be money allocated for education of our nation. It is another issue if the leaders do not want an awakened nation.

Naach gaana dikhai jao, awaam nu puthay rastey lai jao! Tei aap lut maar machai jao!

As you might know, the reason PBS manages to stay on air is because of the funding they get thorugh public taxes and generous donations made by their viewers. Wheras in Pakistan, where people freak out with just the mention of the word ''tax", its pretty hard for government to put some of that money into channels. And then theres that little matter of corruption and countless other factors that US doesn't have to face.

And secondly, eventhough its said that TV can be used for any purpose, educational, entertainment etc etc but who are we kidding??? We all (or most of us) watch TV primarily for entertainment. I mean theres no other substitute to just sitting on your couch, relaxing and watching TV after a long, hard day at work, school etc. So in pakistan, where there are channels no where close to in quantitiy compared to US, to ask for an educational channel would be asking for too much. Look at american cable... there are thousands of channels but theres only one Animal Planet.

I consider all that comes on TV these days as waste of time. It is much better to sit in mosque and read some good book, and add to knowledge. Even the internet is better.

We all know how people of Pakistan including me were collecting money when Imran Khan wanted to make a cancer hospital. We all know how people blindly contribute to Edhi.

Its all a matter of credibility my brother.

Pakistanis are very generous, it depends who calls them towards the right.

wow. You must really hate tv if you're putting the internet higher than tv, next to soul-searching and spiritual enhancement.

What about Aalim Online shrugs?

If not all, most of it really is. Ofcourse you see a few educational channels, here and there, like National Geographic or news, etc, but most are really nothing but a waste of time.

Aalim Online, a program whose host is showing off his wording and dresses.

Please explain what valuable info do we gain from a drama that takes away 1 hour of our time.

hey, a good drama can be therapy for a day of dealing with jerks!

Making sure that the two way process of learning continues...:)

Pfewwwwwwww.. So many Channels now.

Last time when I was there, there was only 1 channel

good point: IK

Islamabad: oh comeon...drama watching is not a female occupation - men watch it too. Only their egos are so big...

I think Pakistan is improving in an extremely fast pace to catch up with the "entertainment industry". Movies I'm not aware of but the songs are sweeeeeet :)
