Re: Pakistani Drama Stars

I believe we are a country full of talented people be it in films, music or wateva :D...its just that the rest of the world doesnt get to know abt our talented...newayz so ya there are many talenetd actors of pakistan...but the one who stands out for me is Abid Ali.

I think he's gr8...a very good actor. I also hope he is not a villan in real life like his daughter makes him out to be:(

Re: Pakistani Drama Stars

And ya the guy who recently died :(....he was an amazing actor 2...esp his voice was so nice n i remember watchin his dramas as a kid :(....

Re: Pakistani Drama Stars

His daughter has umpteenth cogent reasons to make him out (to be) and I value her sentiments.

IMAAN is a wonderful person..of many qualities...more heavy..that they endow her from her weaker points.

ABID...indeed is a good actor...in fact one of the best....that he should win more awards---not wives!

Rabia Naureen is his third! and thus...Imaan's laments also.

Re: Pakistani Drama Stars

Where are you from?

Its SHAFI MUHAMMAD *(Allah Bakhshay) you are talking about....I am sure!*

He was a great actor.......no replacement to his class..I do declare.

Re: Pakistani Drama Stars

savera nadeem
farah shah(having beautiful dialogue delivery)
uzma gailani
marina khan
khalida riyasat
bushra ansari
resham(totally wasted in movies)

Re: Pakistani Drama Stars

Actors
Abid Ali
Faisal Qureshi...er and that's about it. Cannot think of any more at the moment. For the rest of current 'lot' of actors, none!Aijaz Aslam is unbearable, he doesn't know anything about acting at all. It's a pain to watch him.Ditto for Shabbir Jan

Actresses

Imaan Ali (I think she is really down to earth and a genuine person)
Maria Wasti
Resham
Shehnaz Sheikh
Roohi Bano
Zeba Bakhtiyar (but I admit more for her looks, than her talent)
Arifa Siddiqui
Sawera Nadeem
Nadia Jameel
Sonya Rehmaan
Saba Pervez (at times)

The rest are okay. Atiqa Odho is really the most beautiful actresses of our country, but her acting is okay. Mahnoor is really pretty too.Don't like Bushra Ansari, and Sameena Peerzada at all!Mona Lisa is very good every now and then. Ayesha Khan is good, but I have seen her playing only one type of characters, and that's kind of boring.

Re: Pakistani Drama Stars

INDEED…and my best friend.

Dont miss her forthcoming show titled “ATIQA O” every Sunday 9.20 pm PST on HUM TV.

CHAHATAIN pic taken by me (2002)

Re: Pakistani Drama Stars

MONA is indeed a talented girl who brings out the best of the character she is required to portray…I watched her closely in Scotland last Oct-Nov and she really takes care of the semantics involved in her role.
A friendly, social and a one guy girl…Mona is liked by all her colleagues.

AYESHA…is not to be blamed here. She is at the thresh-hold of her career in show_biz. She accepts the role befitting her age. She is around 28-29 presently…and I know that as she is my cousin’s daughter an I have literally seen her grow in Abudhabi (UAE) during 1983-1993.
She is a good artiste and a wonderful person by many counts.

We cant call her as type-cast…as she will not suit in the role of some aunty or mom…now would she???

Re: Pakistani Drama Stars

^I am not asking her to play the roles of some aunty or mommy. However, even if she is acting the role of a young women, there are many shades and moods that can be played. And it's not just Ayesha(I am sure she is very talented), but for some reason a lot of Pakistani actors (and some of them are great actors too) have a tendency to play a certain type of roles only.

I don't have this 'complaint' about actors/characters only. Even most of the dramas are very similar, themetically and 'technically'. There is very little variety.Seriously, I would so love to see a historical drama, or some epic, or anything which is not about relationships and marriages. There are sooooooo many different subjects in the world, for heaven's sake!

Also, the drama producers and directors have focused all their energies on making glamorous dramas, which are mostly about the upper strata or the elite. Good and well...but what about the rest of the country? There are many different communities, different social classes, and each has their own issues and problems, which can be dramatized.

Another point, one hardly sees any dramas in a rustic setting. If at all they choose to make some play that is set in rural areas, it's always about waderas and chaudrys. There is more to a gaon than that! And there are a lot of villages which don't have any chaudry or wadera, they are very 'progressive' in their thinking, and yet they have their own problems that they have to deal with. (my own village is an example of that) What I don't like about types is that they are very restricting. For example, as you pointed out, Ayesha is talented, but I feel that by only doing roles of a certain kind, she has restricted her potential.

P.S. I have just recently started watching t.v. dramas again, after a very long time, and some of them are really good. I haven't seen much of Mona's plays to be a fair critic, but there are some scenes in the drama serial Piyasi, where she is brilliant! She is very good looking too, although that has nothing to do with one's acting talents:).

Re: Pakistani Drama Stars

SUPERB response...I must say.

Now then...let's go into some bitter facts here;;;;

  1. **This PRIVATE productions nonsense or current popularity has hyped the matter to its heights...that these production houses or the channels like GEO, ARY, HUM, TV-One etc.., are NOT ready to take shots on producing plays or serials like TIPU SULTAN, AZADI K MUJRIM, MIRZA GHALIB...etc etc...essentially involving costumes and get-ups into different dresses by females like Saadia Imam, Vinny, Sonya Khan, Joyyz Abbasi, Ayesha Khan, Tooba...Myra..etc etc...or Humayun Saeed, Adnan Siddiqui and Faisal Qureshi dressed as IMAM DIN GUHAVIA or MIRZA GHALIB....(though Faisal did adopt a different get up in some serial recently) **
  2. My answers to this are within no.1 above. But let me add here that it was and has been PTV only which catered to what you desire...and the very reason for same was that PTV is under Government of Pakistan and there's no stake holding on as to how much the profit or loss would be.....so back to square one.. these private channels' have one LOGO or FOCUS in mind.....which, in this Corporate World...is termed as MAXIMIZATION OF PROFIT AT ALL COSTS!
  3. As far as the blame or pointers...I am afraid...it's the AUDIENCE only....and none the other! PLUS the B.R.A.N.D.I.N.Gs and SPONSORSHIPS which have become painful... much so much that people prefer to wait for release of DVs then to watch on the tube... that it will be advert. free and less cumbersome to gulp a volley of stupid adverts with repeats....
  4. If there's anyone who believes that the choice or wishes of the VIEWERS have a say at the private channels.. they couldn't be a bigger fool......for nobody cares a hoot on that. From Actors to Producers to Directors to Writers....entire focus is on PROFIT & MONEY...and the best part is that it just doesn't seem to be a DIGESTIVE one! Facts ARE facts.....and normally I try and extricate facts....

Khush Rahein.....

Re: Pakistani Drama Stars

Then it boils down to the same thing...people (read priavte t.v. channels, producers etc. etc.) are afraid to be creative and experiment with things. It's very sad. Because, no one here seems to care about creativity, or creating something which is artistic and aesthetically pleasing. It's just MONEY, MONEY, MONEY everywhere.

If I have to say, the thing which is destroying and weakening every institute in Pakistan is a never ending lust for money. We don't seem to have any ethical values any longer..our only god is MONEY. Khuda ham pe rehem karay.

Thanks a lot for taking time to write down a response. Keep well!

Re: Pakistani Drama Stars

I think people have a tendency to complain about everything. They used to crib about how PTV dramas were "dull", "lifeless" etc....I think the new crop is doing a great job with the serial line up at Hum and Aaj in specific...its pretty impressive, they cover a whole range from issue-based dramas based on short stories of famous writers, the woman-centric series on HumTV (I forget its name, but it was penned by a rather famous feminist...Attiya Dawood??) to the glamorous ones which show the upper strata, to which trust me, A LOT of people even in Pak can relate to now. If you guys want to watch slums and other sob-stories, you can turn on the news. I think they are doing a decent job and only deserve encouragement as t he onslaught of those obscene serials from across the border has been halted by the local productions.

Re: Pakistani Drama Stars

What is wrong with slum stories? And pardon me, in my 'honestest' opinion, the local productions have not really stopped the onslaught of serials from across the border, they have only become obscene themselves in order to compete with them.

And I loved PTV when they had more variety to offer. Espcially, in my childhood, they had not only classic dramas to show, but a huge variety of other shows too. Hum tv is cool, but needlessly 'forward'.
