You must be right. Actually, the site I got this pic from says it's Makli Graveyard so I was sort of confused about which it is.

I think you are right as well. :) Some of those sites do list that tomb as Makli as well, so no fault on your part. Here are some pics of Makli graveyard for sure that I did find...

I have spent most of my life in Karachi (when we used to visit pak from saudia). Most of my relatives are still there. My early schooling was completed there. Its a great city, i cannot forget the part i spent there. In early nineties and late eighties, it lsot a bit of its charm but Thanks God its almsot back to its best. ‘Roshniyon ka Shahar’
and the single most important thing that will always be an advantage for Karachi is Sea-side :k:

i reckon karachi's strong points are not its architectural monuments but its throbbing life and the ethnic diversity...and ofcourse the beaches...and some modern shopping malls etc like park towers in clifton or some of the shops on zamzama...also its the fastest and biggest city in pakistan....its got its own environment and many many subenvironments....
the architectural sites have already been mentioned in the thread...
go to sea view on the weekend in the evening to experience the hulla gulla of a real crowd and view the sunset while eating some garma garam bhunnay hoay chanay and sipping some warm kahwa...catch some crabs...take camel and horse rides on the sand...afterwards go to the village for dinner...
then if you want the foreign adventurer cultural explorer type experience, take a cultural tour, go to neelam colony/punjabi basti, go to the pathan bastis, go to the sindhi bastis, abdullah shah ghazi ka mazar, travel on the buses all over the city and just see from Defence to Korangi the different kinds of lives you will see ppl following....ppl in different areas have formed their own small worlds and speak their own langauages...karachi is a mini pakistan...
for food i reckon boat basin is the best. tasty. clean. economical. nice places to sit.
buns road is ok for takeaway.
BBQ tonite near bilawal house is a good option for eating out.
dinner buffet at lal qila is one of the very best i ever had.
if u drive a bit away from khi into the sindh desert you can even happen upon the thari nomads...they'll call you in their tents and offer you fresh goat milk...very poor but very hospitable ppl...
go as a big group...rent a hut in sandspit/hawkesbay/french beach and spend a night there, do a bonfire...take biryani and botlein with u...or rent a boat and go fishing near kimari/manora...
go to bohri bazaar and empress market and that area to see another type of karachi life...its totally different from zamzama and gulf in clifton...
ive lived most of my life here but theres still many places in khi i've never been to!! its a huge city...but a great one :)
Did anybody notice the intense pollution in Karachi? Honestly, I found it very hard to breath my first few days there. I would have to put a dupatta over my face and inhale that way or else I would just start coughing cause the air is just filthy. After a few days, I guess my body adjusted and I was fine .... but the smell is intense. Regardless of where you go, the pollution is everywhere! I wonder why no garbage disposal system has been implemented.

My father who is a civil engineer once told me that according to a survey done by an independent source Tibet Center in karachi is the most polluted place in the whole world... I dunno if it is really true or not but the source was reliable ...

Mehnaz,
I fully agree with you on this. I visited Karachi in May last year and pollution was very intense. I am not sure if felt this way because I was visiting first time in 13 years or it has increased way more, even though we lived there all our life.
Pollution was the most disturbing thing from the list of other problems like +47c temp. load shading, cleaning issues, etc.
Well, it was my first time there in 20 years this past October. As soon as the plane landed, you could smell the pollution. It was quite intense. What can they do to lower the pollution? All the rikshaws release thick black smoke into the air and so do the cars. On top of that, the streets are just filthy cause people throw their rubbish on the ground. On top of that, you have red stains on the walls from people spitting. It's something I failed to understand. What's even more baffling is that India and surrounding countries like Nepal are just as bad, if not worse, in terms of pollution.
Mehnaz yeah :(
its a problem in the cities all over Pakistan...the pollution....its the one thing that really really strikes u when u come from abroad...even living in karachi before i always used to avoid the busy areas or have my car windows rolled up coz the pollution is sooooo bothersome :( n inever ventured into the busy areas...
these days too every single day when commuting to and from work it bothers me soooo much...i dont even wana go out coz i wana stay away from the pollution...honestly...aaaaaahhhh
these days in empress market area in saddar u cant see ten feet ahead of u theres sooooo much pollution...u can hang a white cloth there and in less than a week its gonna be grey...
if u r driving on any main road, u cant open ur car windows for one minute otherwise u r gonna smell the pollution...our car doesnt have an AC and the driver feels hot so opens the windows, cant even tell him not to as poor guy is sweating...and then the pollution enters the car and i have to put my dupatta on my face...otherwise the air literally chokes u...
i am not kidding but everyday i come home my eyes n face skin r itchy...its obviously coz of the pollution....if u wipe away the dust from ur face the tissue paper comes off GREY!!!
it honestly bothers me sooooo much too...sigh...i often think if there was ONE thing i could change abt pakistan, it will have to be pollution :(
how can our govt not do something abt this!!!!!!!!!! this is the air we breathe!!!!!!!!! all these rickshaws and buses and trucks emit like clouds of grey air and theres no laws to control it!!!! and we have like no trees!!!
aaaaahhh....sigh...
:(

Well, who is our Govt. Same public, right? Like any other prosperous country, we have every single rule and regulation in the books but nothing in practical. There is a rule for any auto/ motor vehicle emission control and a chalan / fine is to be issued if an auto rickshaw is on the road without the emission filter thing on... but who cares. General concept behind this is that if you take the part of the silencer out, vehicle will consume less Gas/ patrol.
This was about the air pollution issue but as mehnaz said, what about the garbage and the trashes in front of the houses...even their own houses...who is responsible for that? I've seen people throwing bags of garbage on the street direct from their balconies in Nazimabad and North Karachi areas ...we can't blame Govt. for that.
I went for the ice cream with the family I was staying at Red Carpet/ boat basin area and I've seen people sitting in good luxurious cars, throwing empty cups and bags direct on the footpath and street... on inquiry, I got answer that " sweepers needs something to do..."
KDA civic center (Gulshan)- their is a maroon paint in the in the corner of the stairs... that is for the "peeek" of paan so it wouldn't look bad...what an idea. :)
It doesn't mean that all is bad...but I think we need a revolution (probably educational) in order to get that situation better.
