Pakistani among top 10 US 'super cops'

http://www.dawn.com/2003/10/26/nat22.htm

great individual achievement by this super-Pakistani but i am a little concerned how a pakistani policeman is so highly rated and rewarded for his hard work, while they are flogged to death bed for their honest in Pakistan. Sad for the nation, great for the individual.

no wonder he left karachi police, no sane persn could serve such a corrupt institution properly. bt what exctly did he do to get such recognition in a land that has learned recently to discriminate against muslims. and how did he end up joining police in the US so sson after immigration...?

on the other hand i also feel that our ppl have a tendency to work to their maximum capacity and bring forward their best qualities as second class citizens in other countries and excel in whatever they do but the same ppl back in pakistan make sure they never act reasonably, never try to work with the same passion, try to keep corrution away...why?

Because they get rewarded for their good performance in the western countries whereas in Pakistan they get flogged and humiliated. Are you not reading newspapers these days?

^ well i think youre referring to the traffic constable versus the major general's driver incident. I was also infuriated to read the report right aftre it made news, inspite of being a very strong supporter of and fan of our armed forces. However, few days ago i read a report on the same story from a diff angle. the writer talked about the cop being humiliated for 'carrying out his duty', and added that sources said the cop had misbehaved with the man, who being a generals driver took the matter farther than the cop would have imagined. the article discussed how a regular pakistani cop who misbehaves with everyone everyday on every corner anytime of day without necessary reason or accountability, was shown a face of his own behaviour when he stepped on a larger cat's paws. he may do whatever he would want to an ordinary man, but that does'nt matter. he misbehaves with a generals driver and he gets punished...
so the picture isnt as simple as it looks and maybe all parties concerned have done some wrong in one way or the other...

^ I don't buy the allegations of misconduct of a policeman against the driver of a Major general. Dude, we are talking about Pakistan where the drivers of major generals and even their dogs have special status. And it is not the only case other cases have also been reported in different cities.

shawaiz its possible.. many traffic cops are very rude. But againt the general saab was probably in some big car with special plates etc, and cops usually dont mess with those ppl...which is sad in itself.

something liek this happened before with an MNA too.

You are absolutely right Fraudia, but as I said earlier, it was not the only case of this kind, some other cases of the same kind have also been reported from other parts of the country.

And when I criticize the military then I mean the top brass of the army that is often being heavily criticized for involving in lucrative businesses and land-laundering. The young officers and jawans are patriots through and through without any doubt.

Its not like the top brass jumpred in from the sky. They were jawans too once. And you cannot generalise the idea that all top military brass is corrupt. Not saying they are not. But I 've personally known a few of senior Army officers and they were as clean as it gets.

And his website

http://www.desicop.com/

the majorgeneral's driver (as they are referring to him) most probably was in a private civilian car and so the cop misbehaved with him considering him just another commoner with whom he could behave in any manner. The cop would never have dared to do something like this to a major general's official driver driving a 2star car; and besides the media would have mentioned the driver in that case by his rank etc cause a major general's official driver is a soldier of the army.

my point is that shawaiz you are right in saying that such incidents happen very often and many times the cops would also have been good people and many times otherwise, but the problem is that only those with power, as Fraudia is right in saying, be it civil democratic MNAs, MPAs (whos drivers and dogs also happen to have special status) or military officers, are only secure enough or important enough to protect their rights in our country...the common man is most unimportant.

kher whatever the situation with that event was, it does not change the fact that this guy has done a great job and really has achieved a great recognition for it.
