I guess it’s suppose to be somewhat positive news, not exactly sure what it does for the Land of Pure…
ISLAMABAD: Islamabad heaved a sigh of relief on Wednesday when it was informed by Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo that it was to be readmitted into the fold of Commonwealth in a couple of months.
Nigeria had put up stiff resistance previously, when the Commonwealth met to decide on the lifting of suspension on Pakistan. “By the next meeting of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group, the issue of the readmission of Pakistan would be resolved. The meeting in this regard between the president of Nigeria and Prime Minister Jamali (on the sidelines of the D-8 summit) was very positive and encouraging,” Masood Khan, Foreign Office spokesman told the weekly press briefing.
Personally, I don’t think the Commonwealth matters much on the international arena, except for the fact that it does bring togther some 30% of world leaders in one big forum every few years.
But I am sure that some of our exiled politicians who have been opposing this move for the last four plus years, will be very disheartened.

Re: Re: Pakistan’s C’Wealth membership to be restored in April
Exactly.
It has always amused me how the Commonwealth goes about lecturing others on democracy, when it has amongst it’s members absolutist royal dictatorships like Brunei and Tonga.
Maybe Pak students can win scholarships in Common Wealth
countries. Also look at British Council Website(I hope Its still working).
They have few scholarships for Common Wealth Countries.
And Australian Universities also offer scholarship. But their
respective websites must be searched. Infact they also
offer other scholarships provided your IELTS score is 8.
Off-topic:

yups, learn their language.
One benefit of Commonwealth membership is that citizens of commonwealth member countries who are resident in the UK may take part in elections here (whereas, say, US citizens living in the UK are denied voting rights).
The other benefits of membership include access to trade, investment and development programmes run for the benefit of Commonwealth states only.
Well little as the Commonwealth matters when it comes to the world stage, it had put stringent conditions for the restoration of Pakistani democracy before lifting the suspension. Those seem to have been fulfilled to the Commonwealth's satisfaction, which I am sure irks those sitting in self-imposed exile and others. :)
Waste of time. We get no economic, social, political or legal benefits. Who gives a flying **** anyway. We have done better without being a party to it.
