Re: Pakistan World Cup Squad
Seems like a balanced team. Interesting to see six players from the last world cup. Let us see how the new and the old gel together and play their game. We wish the Pakistani team best of luck. Looking forward to some good cricket coming February and March. Cant wait!

That will not happen as long as Anushk Sharma is there around with Kohli in Australia.
Could happen this world cup. Law of averages!
Re: Pakistan World Cup Squad
Lol at Sohail Khan, chosen on a back of a mini contest when all rounders like Azam rot.
We line up like this probably:
Shehzad
Hafeez
YK
Haris
Misbah
Umar
Afridi
Wahab
Yasir
Junaid
Irfan
YK will take either Umar or Maqsood's spot. Travesty. Fawad should have been in there too.
Pakistan World Cup Squad
I would hv picked balawal bhatti over wahab riaz. What good is WR either way, especially for last couple of years? He gives away too many runs and it doesn't take too long for him to come under pressure and forget line n length
Re: Pakistan World Cup Squad
Squad : Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Sarfaraz ahmed, Younis Khan, Harris Sohail, Misbah ul Haq, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Maqsood, Shahid Afridi, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Irfan, Junaid Khan, Ehsan Adil, Sohail Khan, Wahab Riaz
Instead of Hafeez as specialist opener (not an all-rounder) I would've picked Nasir Jamshed, or even better Fawad Alam (or may be in place of Younis Khan). Glad to see Yasir Shah in there. I agree SID_NY about Bilawal Bhatti over Wahab Riaz.

What could have been:
Re: Pakistan World Cup Squad
Thanks God there is no Kamran, Damad AKA Malik and Kukri AKA Tanveer. I am really looking forward to see how Yasir performs in Australian/NZ conditions.
Also we need to promote Umar Akmal to perhaps 1 down or 2 down. He comes in too late to build and play long inning.
Re: Pakistan World Cup Squad
Some funny comments on this article:
“The results show that 3 people voted for Kamran Akmal. Two of those would be Kamran Akmal himself and his mum. I wonder who the third one is?”
“Besides runs.. I think the selectors are waiting for Fawad to give them his first born…”
Re: Pakistan World Cup Squad
Why is Fawad not in the squad and why is YK there
Why sohail khan on what basis?
Re: Pakistan World Cup Squad
Sohail Khan how? Apparently he is an 'all rounder'! Hope he has improved exponentially since I last saw him.
Some innovative selections, particularly Ehsan Adil. Adil, Junaid and Irfan seems to be the pace attack they are going with.
Feel sorry for Fawad Alam. should have been an automatic selection. As chief selector Moin Khan should take the major blame for this gross injustice to Fawad.
Not so sure about Younis Khan, Wahab and Sohail Khan (Is he really better than Bhatti and Anwar Ali? Both can bat but their bowling is pathetic). The rest of the squad picks itself. Hope Sohail just warms the benches.
Thank god no Sohail Tanvir, Kamran Akmal or Shoaib Malik

Re: Pakistan World Cup Squad
PCB (and selection committee) do not selects Pakistani team but selects Personal team on basis of nepotism, bribes, parchi, victimisation and injustices, along with shafarish, parchi, pasand/na-pasand and always ignoring merit.
Only 5 Pakistani players ever had/have average above 40 in ODI, two playing today, but PCB could not see that due to their corruption and nepotism. Same they have done in test where they ignore player whose first class average is higher than any Pakistani player ever, is higher than almost all current world players, and that is Fawad Alam (average 57 in first class). Only 20 players in cricket history have better first class average than Fawad Alam, still corrupt PCB keep him out of test and make lower quality batsman play test for Pakistan.
Records | First-class matches | Batting records | Highest career batting average | ESPN Cricinfo
As for world cup (ODI matches), Only 5 Pakistani players (Zaheer, Fawad, Misbah, M Yusuf and Miandad) have average above 40 and Fawad is second in the list after Zaheer Abaas, still he is out and many lower quality batsmen are playing for Pakistan. Actually, if we look at List A (domestic ODI matches) average, ODI average and Strike Rate, Fawad performance is better than all who are in World cup as batsman.
Many people may not know, but if one sees record of world cricket players, we find a remarkable co-relation between test averages and first class average … similar there is co-relation between ‘list A’ averages and ODI averages. Same is true with Pakistani players and that is obvious too, as one who scores better than others in first class would score better in test too, same way, if one is scoring better than others in ‘list A’ would score better in ODI too.
It is unfortunate that since ODI started, Pakistan has only 5 players whose average was/is over 40, two of them are current players. It does not matter if a team wins or loses world cup, but at least PCB and selection committee should send best team possible, but when nepotism, corruption, victimisation and personal likes/dislikes effect selection instead of merit and performance, it is country and people (awam) who loses out.

No doubt when Zaheer, Miandad and Inzamam used to play ODI, an average of 40 was as good as average of 50 today, as then 220 to 240 was good score to win, but today team is expected to score around 270 to 280 as competitive target, and even 300 is occasionally not enough. Still, apart of Fawad and Misbah, Pakistan has no batsmen with average above 40 … compared to other teams who have players with averages over 50.

On top of being best performer, Fawad is also one of the best fielders Pakistan has, plus he has ability to rotate the strike that increased run rate of team, reduces pressure on team, and also make partner batting make runs. On Australian large grounds, probably rotating strikes and scoring singles and doubles would be best way of scoring quick runs, that suits Fawad style of batting the most.
Surprisingly, almost all top teams in world cup have couple of players in their middle order whose average is above 40 except Pakistan whose most players have average 35 or below. So, how can such team could even qualify for semi final (in top 4)? … I think, it is very unlikely that Pakistan would qualify for semi final. I am wondering how PCB and Selection committee can give reason why they left out the best performer and sent those whose performance in no way is comparable?
Unfortunately, it seems, Pakistan team would come back as loser and Pakistanis would be told that this is just game, so take the result gracefully. But then, one can take the result gracefully if team was selected on merit, but to expect that PCB and selection committee selects team on nepotism, victimisation, personal likes and dislikes, bribes, recommendation and so on … ignoring merit and performance of players, than why they expect Pakistanis should accept bad result gracefully? … But I am afraid that Pakistanis are such a pathetic nation that they would accept the results with smiling faces and would comfort each other saying that this is only game.
Re: Pakistan World Cup Squad
I think it is worth to watch this (Satire) program (Media Azad Hai on Cricket) that has a lot of truth about the state of PCB and Pakistan selection committee. I am pretty sure that it would also give insight of what is happening to Pakistan cricket and where it is going … as when obvious performance and obvious talent of a player (Fawad) gets ignored (what regularly happens in Pakistan), it not only affects the players, their performance, and future development of players, but people (Pakistanis spectators of cricket) get detached with national team (as also mentioned in the program),
Re: Pakistan World Cup Squad
I am still unable to understand the exclusion of Fawad Alam from the Team Even his performance was much better then many other players.
Shahid Afridi will be the key player from Pakistani Side in this world cup.

Hafeez will be the most useless player in this world cup.
Not sure what people/board/coach is expecting from his "world class" batting skills
